Whether you’re a budding actor trying to make it out there or a businessman updating your LinkedIn profile, City Wide Studio Photography is a good choice,

The first thing we immediately liked is their array of headshot package options. Plus, everything is well within the reasonable price so we have no complaints thus far where money is concerned.

Clients have two major options for a professional headshot: Silver Package and the Star Package. To cut to the chase, they basically have the same inclusions except for two major differences.

The Silver Package only gives you one professionally edited headshot and two wardrobe changes. Meanwhile, the Star Package gives you two professionally edited headshots (different looks) and three wardrobe changes.

Silver starts at $65 while Star starts at $120. Both packages have a free consultation and no time limit for the photoshoot.

To be honest, if you only plan to have the same headshots for your online accounts, Silver is already a great choice. On top of that, you also get expert photo direction, which is what we loved in terms of experience here.

The only thing we didn’t like too much is how inconsistent their turnaround times tend to be. Sometimes it’s within the day, sometimes it takes a week (of course, considering the number of photos needed).

On top of that, they charge $25 for express delivery, which is a bit too much for our book. So if you’re in a rush for the day, be ready to spend that much for a faster turnaround.

By the way, they also have other packages where clients can get 10 to 100 unedited images plus 4 to 10 edited ones. Now, this is something you might want to check out if you’re a model or actor and need to submit headshots to apply for various gigs.

Pros

  • Free consultation
  • No time limit on the photoshoot
  • Specific posing directions from photographer
  • High resolution and professionally edited photos
  • Option to combine two packages
  • Group pricing available for corporate headshots
  • 2 to 3 wardrobe changes allowed
  • Option to shoot in-studio or location of choice

Cons

  • Expensive rate for same-day delivery
  • Inconsistent turnaround times

David Chang Photography landed on our radar thanks to the team’s solid services. Not only are there accessible headshot packages here, but there are also styling and makeup options as well as excellent retouching services.

To start off, let’s discuss their packages first. Right off the bat, it’s expensive – and by expensive we mean almost three times the price of other studios on our list at $195 to $325.

Do we think the quality of the headshots justifies the price? Yes and no, mostly depending on how you plan to use the photo/s.

See, unlike other studios, they send you multiple photos taken during the session via Google Drive. These images have no watermarks and have no limits on use (perhaps you can use them as profile pictures on personal social media?).

On top of that, you are free to select your own background and lighting style. This is something we really value because the background alone speaks volumes for a professional headshot and can even reflect the industry you are in.

Another thing worth noting is that every photo comes with expert retouching. And we’re not just talking about fixing minor hair issues here – we’re talking about taking a couple of years off your face and modifying it a little to give you a fresh glow.

All the sessions have no time limit plus you can instantly review the photos taken during the shoot. We liked this one because it gives the clients an idea of what to improve on their poses.

We also appreciate that they have in-studio makeup, hair, and wardrobe styling for additional costs. It’s a great extra to keep in mind in case dropping by a salon isn’t on your clock yet.

Pros

  • No penalties for cancellation or rescheduling
  • Option to shoot in-studio or location of choice
  • Same day proofs (no watermark) sent via Google Drive
  • Unique backgrounds and lighting styles available
  • Expert retouching done on all packages
  • Wardrobe styling assistance
  • Options for in-studio makeup or hair or makeup + hair
  • Instant reviewing of photos during shoot

Cons

  • Expensive packages
  • Pricey retouching rates (individual)

I had a great experience working with David – he clearly is an expert with crafting professional headshots! Looking through Robert McGee’s portfolio, we already know that the guy loves consistent results. And if your shooting purpose is for personal branding, you may want to check him out.

Similar to our previous entry, the headshots here are quite pricey, although this one’s still cheaper at $185. Plus, clients do get flexible background and lighting options, which is always something that we look for.

In addition to this, clients also get an online gallery with about 15 to 20 images, which is a fair deal. The turnaround time though often takes a while and same-day requests cost extra.

Apart from that, we’re also missing a few wardrobe change options and unlimited shots that we often see at this price point. To make up for this, at least they also offer in-studio makeup and hairstyling for $175 – not too bad.

Plus, their retouching skills also took our interest with the level of detail they go through. This is free for headshot packages, but all the additional images you get don’t include retouching anymore.

As mentioned, what we loved best about this studio is their personal branding package. It’s $750 but it’s worth every dime if we break down the inclusions.

It’s a 2.5-hour session involving three concepts so clients can enjoy a decent variety. Second, clients get a personal online gallery with 45 to 60 photos available for download and viewing.

Moreover, it includes four fully-retouched photos that the client has chosen. They can also drive to locations but with additional charges so that’s something you might want to hold off before committing.

Overall, the studio is among our favorites when it comes to professional headshots. We saw high-quality results, satisfied customers, and we’re just hoping for a few fixes here and there in the near future.

Pros

  • mprehensive packages
  • Specializes in professional headshots and branding
  • Online gallery with 15 to 20 images.
  • Unique backgrounds and lighting styles available
  • Expert retouching available
  • In-studio makeup and hairstyling available
  • Offers teens children’s headshots
  • Easy online booking option
  • Flexible payment options

Cons

  • pensive packages
  • No options for wardrobe changes for packages
  • Charges extra for drive-in locations

Calvin Thomas Photography has all the basics we expected from a highly sought-after photography studio. They offer comprehensive packages with great add-ons, plus top-notch quality on their photos.

The rates definitely fall on the more expensive side but with a few features that justify the cost.

We should start by admitting we didn’t like that the standard session is only 20 minutes long. There are a lot of studios that have no time limits for their sessions – so this one lacks in that department.

Fortunately, the package already has everything you need from the backdrops, a wardrobe change, and high-resolution retouch. The retouching service is wonderful and is probably the best on our list in terms of post-production results.

Another thing we like is that the basic package already gives clients 50 to 80 images to keep. Of course, the higher the tier of the package you get, the longer the duration, more photos to keep, and more options for backdrop changes.

The optional add-ons are also a nice touch that truly elevate the experience, in our opinion. Our favorite would be the extra retouches, because at $40, they’re about 30% cheaper than other studios.

Speaking of makeup, they do both hair and makeup for men and women, which is something fun to look forward to. Other than that, they also have a referral program that we think is a great deal since clients can save 15% of the package price.

To wrap it all up, we have to give it to this studio in terms of customer experience. Clients have no complaints on comfort whatsoever and the photographer’s directions have been praised hundreds of times.

Pros

  • Comprehensive packages available
  • Good add-ons to choose from
  • Offers a referral program with great discounts
  • High resolution retouching services
  • Minimum of 50 images to keep
  • Hair and makeup services available for men and women
  • Great customer service experience
  • 15 years of experience

Cons

  • Expensive rates
  • Limited time per photo shoot per project

Compared to other studios on our list, Stenson Photography has the most expensive set of packages. But it also has the most streamlined and hands-on process we’ve experienced.

To start, let’s talk about the major things we liked about them.

First, the photographer, Andrea Stenson, has an extensive 14 years of experience in professional photography. Over time, she’s managed to work with clients in Canada, the UK, and Australia.

Experience and diverse clientele matter to us because their combination guarantees a well-trained photographer. Plus, this ensures that the quality of the photos you get is a product of skills developed throughout the years.

Second, the packages are easy to understand and customize based on your needs. Studio Packages start at $225 while Team Packages start at $500.

What sets these packages apart is that all of them include pre-shoot branding consultation. This is a service that other studios don’t offer, so that’s a plus for us.

Additionally, clients get to enjoy custom backdrops, an online gallery with downloadable images, and photos with unlimited usage rights. All-in-all, these inclusions are already standard but you can still customize them based on certain requirements.

Finally, not only is it easy to book a consultation with them, it’s also a fun time to exchange ideas. In total, they combine good services with high-quality products so we’re happy with what they offer.

Pros

  • Customizable packages
  • Packages available for individuals and teams
  • Highly-experience photographer
  • Offers pre-shoot branding consultation
  • Unlimited sausage rights
  • Retouched images
  • Offers in-studio makeup and hairstyling

Customer Reviews

Better than expected

Andrea is warm, professional, and accommodating. She understands what my needs are, I love how the photos turned out, they are just great, better than expected. The shooting experience with her was great. I recommend Andrea to anyone who needs professional photos, she would not let you down. – Jing Liu

Fantastic results

To say Andrea is good at what she does would be an understatement.  Finding a great photographer is about so much more than taking a good shot.  Andrea not only made me feel comfortable in front of the camera (which I never thought was possible), she highlighted what made me comfortable, instead of focusing on a particular pose.  So thrilled with the results! – Kara Greenwood
