Toronto Carpentry Company has over 10 years’ experience in the carpentry industry. They are recognised in the Greater Toronto Area as one of the best in terms of door replacement and repair.

Their general carpentry services are quite reliable, spanning from trim carpentry to wood rot repairs. While we do think they could still expand their lineup, we like that they specialise in custom cabinetry and built projects.

Painting and decorating are available for clients who wish to have all services done by one place. We like the fact that they are able to customise everything, from wooden doors down to built-in cabinets and bookshelves.

Clients can choose from a variety of styles and colours. Initial quote and consultation is free for discerning or curious customers and is also a no-obligation process.

We find this company to be very effective as their prices are just right and they are very transparent during the process. They are also a licenced and insured business, so you don’t really have to worry much about their credibility.

Honestly, the only thing inconvenient about this service is that they are closed on Sundays. They follow regular hours during weekdays and a half-day operating schedule on Saturdays.

We recommend them for the quality of their work and their skills in terms of customizing whatever project a client requests. They are reliable and their tenure makes them one of the most recognizable in the GTA.

Pros

  • Over 10 years’ experience
  • Best for wooden door replacement and repair
  • Good for custom cabinetry and built projects
  • Reasonable rates

Cons

  • Closed on Sundays, half-day during Saturdays
  • Can still add more to their general carpentry services

Founded in 2017, Northern Developments Carpentry has surprisingly grown to be one of the most recognised carpentry businesses in the Greater Toronto Area.

Their founder, Brendan Ellenor, was exposed to carpentry as early as 16 years old. He is the son of Troy Ellenor, who is the founder and CEO of Ellenor Developments, a well-recognised custom home carpentry firm.

Probably the very reason why they seemed to have climbed the ladder fast is their appeal to homeowners. They are known for their custom fence, deck and pergola building.

Aside from those already mentioned, the entire list of their residential services covers stairs, sheds, framing, furniture, seating, and other custom projects.

We especially like how they incorporate beautiful patterns when designing pergolas and fences. This makes a good reflection of their dedication to their craft.

For commercial clients, this service also makes a great choice for structural framing and additions. Their products are guaranteed to be long-lasting and very dependable.

We do warn that Northern Developments Carpentry is not the best for small projects, as their methods are more in line with construction.

However, there isn’t really much to dislike about this service. They may be younger and less experienced than others but the workmanship that they provide is at par with industry standards.

Northern Developments Carpentry services 12 areas in total. They are open everyday following their regular morning to evening hours.

Pros

  • Perfect for intricate fence, pergola, and deck projects
  • Extensive list of residential carpentry services
  • Open daily
  • Great workmanship

Cons

  • Relatively less experienced than its competitors
  • Not the best for small scale projects

With a 20-year track record, Pereira Carpentry is recognised in the Greater Toronto Area as one of the most trusted construction and carpentry companies. They are a licenced and WSIB-insured business.

What we find most impressive about them is that they have professional carpenters who ensure that all of their work complies with building codes. Their team is also made up of people who can converse in various languages namely English, Spanish, Dutch, French, and Portuguese.

In terms of their carpentry services, their list is pretty much connected to construction. They go from residential to commercial and they don’t do much small-scale work.

We like how they have a seamless process, where they walk the client through each step. They provide a free initial quote across all their services and enable each customer to have an actual conversation with one of their carpentry specialists.

They accept payments in cash and in cheque, which makes it convenient for both businesses and homeowners who require large-scale or heavy work.

Honestly, the only thing we find inconvenient about them is that they are closed during Sundays. This may just be a day in a week but some of their competitors are actually open daily.

Overall, we recommend Pereira Carpentry for those who are in need of construction and carpentry experts. They provide a hassle-free process and are knowledgeable in what they do.

G&F Customs is known for their creative services and specialised custom carpentry. They are a 7-year old business that has served many retail clients in Toronto and its neighbouring areas.

The best thing about this service is that their wood works are created with state-of-the-art products. They make use of Canadian softwood lumber, Brazilian walnut, and more.

They have a CNC machine for unique wood applications and their tool inventory is well-equipped with all the traditional woodworking tools. They also work with various lighting companies within the area.

We like the fact that this service is unique. They put a certain premium on their products and they showcase how carpentry services can be elevated.

Of course, a downside of this is that they are quite expensive. They are really for those who can afford or for those who make specialty carpentry part of their business’ or home’s budget.

On the bright side, we like the fact that they still provide handyman services. We do note that this is only for basic home improvement projects.

They do painting for stores as well. Wooden signs are also available and they are well-versed in the creation of custom wooden accent walls.

All said, we recommend G&F Customs for those who want a creative take on carpentry. They have very imaginative designs and they make wood look more like art.

Pros

  • State-of-the-art materials and equipment
  • Creative carpentry services
  • Wooden signs and accent walls available

Cons

  • Can be costly
  • Does not appeal to a majority of homeowners

An award-winning business established by a master carpenter, The English Carpenter has been one of the most reliable businesses in the carpentry industry since its establishment in 2008.

They won the 2013 Consumer Choice Award for Toronto and the 2014 Consumer Choice Award for the GTA Central. They are also an active member of the Timber Framers Guild.

Residential framing and finishing is their expertise. They perform renovations and additions that homeowners request and are also equipped in project management.

Their background in general construction enables them to provide quality carpentry work and their services are flexible enough, especially large-scale ones.

We find it interesting how their finishing services can be very specific. These include custom-made doors, windows, and even workspaces.

We do note that they do not cover much commercial services, but they can work on something upon request.

Their customer service and bookings can also be a little hectic sometimes. We advise that you secure appointments and visits extra carefully.

In addition, they are closed during weekends. This means that slots can be filled during weekdays and that they lose a percentage of getting more clients.

The English Carpenter is not a perfect service, but it is a service that definitely works. We recommend them to homeowners who are on the lookout for good craftsmanship of household needs.

Pros

  • More than a decade’s worth of experience
  • Award-winning business
  • Specialises in home renovations and additions

Cons

  • Closed during weekends
  • Some reports of lack of follow-through after initial consult

Worked with our deadline and provided us with a high quality bathroom

“They completely renovated our bathroom. Worked with our deadline and provided us with a high quality bathroom. The whole experience from end to end was great, on schedule, no headaches or fights

“We contacted The English Carpenter to enquire about a quote for some kitchen renovations.  We ended using their services for the renovations and couldn’t be happier with the end result.  The owner, who really is English, walked my wife and I through our ideas, suggested some new ideas which were very helpful and delivered a kitchen that was better than our dreams.  The whole experience from end to end was great, on schedule, no headaches or fights. Highly recommend for the exceptional quality of the work done, responsiveness and professionalism.” — Adam McMillan, via Google
