Founded in 2019, Health Insurance Plus is a relatively new yet promising health insurance provider. It is a Toronto-based small business that aims to cater to businesses in the area that are just starting or are about the same size as them.

Comprehensive health insurance plans are at the forefront of their services. They have a total of 6 services, which include basic health insurance, group insurance, and even additional  disability insurance for family members or employees who may need it.

We like the fact that they provide long-term care and life insurance, which are two of the smartest choices for an insurance plan. These usually cover the cost of care for a family or facility, as well as medical security along with other life concerns.

Their coverage is commendable as well. The health insurance package usually includes medicines, diagnostic tests, vision, and even paramedical services.

They sort their offers whether they are for individuals and families, associations, or teams. They also have dental health insurance and emergency out-of-Canada health coverage.

Honestly, there isn’t really anything alarming about this service. We do warn that they do not operate during weekends and that their plans usually cover only until age 90.

We recommend Health Insurance Plus to anyone who wants good health insurance with fair coverage and that starts with low prices. They have a thorough process and will cater to you depending on your needs.

Pros

  • Comprehensive health insurance packages
  • Perfect for small businesses
  • Prices start low
  • Travel insurance has emergency out-of-Canada health coverage

Cons

  • Most plans are limited to a maximum age of 90
  • Less than 5 years’ experience

RBC Insurance is the insurance brand of the Royal Bank of Canada, the country’s biggest bank and one of the biggest in the world in terms of market capitalisation. Their experience traces back to as early as the 1960s and they have at least 50 stores in Canada.

What we like most about RBC is that they are among the biggest insurance provider brands that do not fall short on their services. They have a fair range of insurance options to choose from and serve at least 5 million clients globally.

In terms of their health insurance services, they have basic health insurance for Canadians and 3 more options for coverage namely disability, critical illness, and hospital.

We like how simplified their packages are and how they are able to lay down the benefits of their insurance plans. Rates can also go as low as 13.55 CAD per month for disability plans.

All of their advisors are licenced and they also provide return to work assistance. Their benefits include access to Teladoc Medical Experts and Medical Confidence services as well, which both provide good medical care and advice from industry professionals.

The only thing we find inconvenient about this service is that they do not operate during weekends. In our opinion, they can also do more in terms of widening their health insurance services.

Overall, we find that RBC Insurance makes a safe choice for health insurance given their tenure and general track record.

Pros

  • Owned by the Royal Bank of Canada
  • One of the biggest insurance providers in the world
  • Simplified packages

Cons

  • Sometimes unresponsive to calls
  • Basic health insurance services, can do more in terms of coverage

Established in 1967, Guthrie Insurance is a family owned and operated insurance broker in Ontario. They are known for ensuring families and businesses in the province.

Probably the best thing about this service is that they take into consideration both health sciences and nutritional sciences for their health insurance packages. Even medical malpractice is included for their insurance for health institutions.

Their personal insurance services are good because the initial consultation can either be online or through telephone. The telephone consultations allows one to speak with an actual agent who will handle the case.

Online consultation is as easy as submitting your details and other necessary information. They usually respond very quickly, sometimes as fast as 10 minutes.

They also have living benefits and group benefits insurance, which is perfect for those who may encounter health emergencies such as an appearance of a disability. This also guarantees that the person can continue to receive income should qualifying injuries or sickness arise.

We do hope that they can add more specifications and details in terms of their health benefits and coverage for their personal insurance packages. The ones they currently have aren’t as extensive as the others, in our opinion.

All said, we recommend Guthrie Insurance for their experience in the field. They have one of the easiest enquiry and consultation processes, which is perfect for starters.

Pros

  • Easy consultation process
  • More than 50 years experience
  • Great for commercial medical and health insurance

Cons

  • Personal insurance coverage can be more extensive
  • Some reports on needing to improve customer service

Owned and operated by the Ontario Medical Association, OMA Insurance is a subsidiary that focuses on the distribution of insurance for a non-profit basis. They have insurance packages for one’s lifestyle, assets, and business.

Their health and dental insurance plan is quite a deal. This includes coverage for the insurance holder and their family such as eligible drugs, hospitalisation, paramedical services and more.

We like how their health and dental insurance plan comes with a card that allows you to pay directly for drugs or medicines and even emergency out-of-province/country coverages.

If one avails their health plus or dental plus plan, they will be entitled to additional benefits such as vision care and prosthodontics respectively.

They also offer group insurance for offices and clinics. This makes them one of the top choices for small groups of starting businesses who wish to secure the safety and health of their staff.

Special packages such as priority insurance programs for those who have critical illnesses can be availed as well. These are customisable so that the client can receive a bundle that is fit to their needs.

We do warn that some of their packages can be more costly than most. They also operate 12 hours during weekdays, but are closed during weekends.

OMA Insurance is great for those who want customizable and bundled-to-fit insurance plans that will provide good benefits and coverage for their health needs.

Pros

  • Owned and operated by a medical association
  • Good health and dental insurance coverage
  • Has special customisable packages

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Premiums can go up to 15% yearly

MSH International is an international insurance solutions provider. They are known to support more than 400,000 individuals across the globe.

Their Canadian branch follows the same principles and procedures that the brand has set. They have 24/7 assistance and case management, customised plans, and extensive medical network and online administration tools.

While travel insurance may be their specialty, their health insurance plans are also notable. They have individual plans for expatriates, students and teachers, and travelers and explorers.

Across their categories, they have comprehensive medical medical coverage. This may or may not include hospitalisation, routine healthcare, specialists, vision, dental and maternity coverage.

Their emergency medical coverage is also very convenient. It can cover up to a maximum limit of 1,000,000 CAD and can insure seniors who are at the age of 80.

Worldwide emergency medical coverage is available for travelers. In our opinion, this is a very convenient option as it provides extra security.

Special risk insurance is also available. This is a smart option because it guarantees safety in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Given all these, MSH International charges a little more than other insurance providers. Their international availability and standards put a certain premium to their services, thus the costly rates.

We still recommend them as they make a great option for those who have a specific set of needs and for those who need safety and security wherever they may be.

Pros

  • 24/7 virtual assistance and case management
  • Extensive medical network
  • Various options for medical and emergency coverage

Cons

  • Some packages have age limits
  • Cost is way higher than competitors
