Canada Computers & Electronics has everything you can expect in a typical computer store. They’re well-stocked with computer parts and pieces as well as other peripherals that you might need in your PC setup.

Now, let’s get down to the basics: the selection here is wide and great and you can almost always get what you’re looking for. The even better part is, their prices are even much lower versus big e-commerce sellers in the market.

Additionally, they also offer computer repairs and upgrades for various devices, including home security cameras. They have an on-site team dedicated to these services so the turnaround times are relatively fast.

However, it’s the shopping experience that may put you off a bit, particularly on their online site. For starters, buying in-store was hassle-free for us and the staff is generally helpful without being pushy on other sales.

Their online site is another story because we’re able to find reports where goods arrived with certain physical damage. Even scheduling for pick-ups is a struggle since there are instances where they can’t provide customers with the right bag.

With all that said, the store is something you’d want to look into if you want to buy all you need in one place. Prices are really good and backed by a manufacturer warranty, plus services are quick and the technicians are well-skilled.

Pros

  • Large in-store inventory of various tech items and parts
  • Offers in-store repair/upgrade services
  • Affordable prices (less than city’s average)
  • Discount pricing offered for bundled items
  • Hassle-free in-store buying experience
  • Has an in-house team of technicians

Cons

  • Issues with the delivery and pick up service

Often the trouble with large computer stores is that they lose the value of great customer service. Fortunately, PCV Computers and Electronics proved us wrong and even exceeded our expectations.

Despite the largeness of the business (in terms of inventory, that is) the shopping experience still feels personal. It’s a family-owned business after all so it does have the charm of kindness you don’t often find these days.

Like most computer stores, the place is basically a treasure chest of all things tech. In fact, they carry a lot of the brands we love and trust such as MSI, Intel, Samsung, Acer, and more (tip: you browse by brand on their online store).

Speaking of online services, they’re among the very few that actually have a fairly reliable system. The interface does feel outdated (so we see how this can be prone to buying mishaps) but the rest is all good until delivery.

The prices of goods are really great too, although not the most affordable in their own league. What we do appreciate though is that they can assist you with your custom-build PC and the people there are generally nice about it.

Apart from product warranties, the store also has favorable policies when it comes to returns and exchanges. Policies covering online purchases are pretty limited but the rest is as good as you can imagine.

Pros

  • Wide-range of items sold
  • Assists with custom-build PCs
  • Carries many well-known brands
  • Positive shopping experience
  • Convenient browsing and buying process online
  • Favorable returns and exchange policies
  • Competitive pricing

Cons

  • Online site can be a struggle to navigate

If you have an eye for apple products, Carbon Computing might just be the right place for you. Although their prices are almost comparable to Apple Stores, they have other offerings that make deals more worth the shot.

One of the things that we liked is that they sell used apple products at competitive rates and premium conditions. Everything is inspected before they’re sold so you can basically score some premium used desktops or headphones here.

Apart from that, they also have a team of Apple-trained technicians to deal with repairs and other apple-related solutions. So if you’ve been knee-deep in the Apple ecosystem for a while, they can be a one-stop shop for you.

Additionally, they have a guaranteed buy back program which can be helpful for clients who upgrade their Macs every year (jealous!). If you get a unit from them, you can trade it for a new model and buy it for half the price.

The experience overall is nothing too spectacular, however, the customer service can feel a little underwhelming. Although the assistance is not particularly bad, many of the customers we surveyed were disappointed at their approach.

Even connecting with them for general inquiries can be a struggle whether over the phone or via email. Nonetheless, they make up for it by being a solid alternative to Apple stores for buyers who are a bit budget-conscious.

Pros

  • Specializes in Apple products and services
  • Sells premium used Apple products
  • Has a team of Apple-trained technicians
  • Offers a guaranteed buy back program
  • Same-day Apple service available
  • Curbside pick-up and delivery available

Cons

  • Issues with customer service
  • Difficult to contact at times

Super quick + easy! Made an appt to get a battery issue fixed. I was helped by Alex who not only solved the issue quickly, but taught me how to do it on my own and even provided me with a complimentary tool to do so. Awesome experience!!! I would definitely come back and recommend this service instead of visiting the Apple store. – Alex M.

Excellent selection

I’ve purchased two pre-owned iMacs and a bunch of accessories. The service and selection have been excellent. Simply put: I feel like my business is valued. Carbon Computing is a great alternative to the Apple Store experience. – Brian Eberdt

Midtown Tech is another great shop that specializes in Apple products and repairs. Here are a couple of things you can consider if you even want your products repaired or are buying a new unit.

First, the store is an authorized Apple reseller which basically means you can score the latest models here. Their advantage is that their costs are far less than what you’ll find in upscale shops and the actual Apple store,

Actually, you can even find older models here at competitive costs (although still slightly expensive in our opinion). They mostly sell used iMacs and Macbooks that are tested before sale and are backed by a 90-day warranty.

Another thing that makes them unique is that they offer trade-ins for your old Apple products. According to past customers, the rates offered to them were great plus rarely can you find stores these days that accept trade-ins for old models.

What they excel in best is their repair services, which is perhaps one of the biggest reasons why you may want to drop by. You can be in and out in 20 minutes because they’re already well-stocked with the parts that they need.

Finally, they offer curbside pick-up and delivery options for your purchases. Their team of staff is also a delight to speak with considering how helpful they are and how responsive they are even beyond working hours.

Pros

  • Specializes in Apple products and services
  • Find older Apple product models
  • Accepts trade-ins for apple products
  • Reliable and fast repair services
  • Responsive and helpful staff
  • Curbside pick-up and delivery available
  • Offers Mac Rentals and business services

Cons

  • Limited set of items

Memory Express won our favor by combining a wide range of products with reliable customer service. In fact, we have to say that they have the most attentive staff we’ve come across during our research.

But let’s talk about their products first – basically, it’s a one-stop-shop for all your computer needs. This location in particular does give off the effect that there aren’t many in-store, but they’re actually pretty packed with inventory.

Browsing through their online shop alone will give you an idea of the vast options you can sort through. Fortunately, everything you can find on-site is also available in-store so that curbside pick-up option is definitely of great use.

Moving on to prices, customers can save up to 40% on selected products depending on the brands they buy. The rest of the non-sale items are competitively priced as well so you can essentially build your own PC from here.

As mentioned, customer service is fantastic and we appreciate the efforts they go through just to find the right products. Even their almost perfect 4.9-star rating on Google Reviews can vouch for that matter.

The place is relatively small so it may feel crowded during the busiest hours. But apart from that, everything else won our favor and we’d love to see more services in the future.

Pros

  • Wide range of products
  • Carries many well-known brands
  • Great online shopping experience
  • High potential savings on certain products
  • Reliable and responsive customer services
  • Competitive pricing

Cons

  • Location is relatively small

Very unique display layout compared to other stores. The staff and managers are very friendly and responsive! This is a newer location that opened January 18th, and having not been around for very long I can only see great things for this store in the future! – Claire Nisbet
