5 Best Hair Colorist Salons in Toronto That Local Beauty Influencers Can’t Stop Raving About

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

My cousin, who had long, brown locks, wanted to dye her hair…but her wallet wasn’t cooperating. So, she decided to DIY it and bought a hair color set based on a couple of TikToks she watched.

Big mistake—instead of the flawless blonde Taylor Swiftesque hair she wanted, she got a brassy, uneven yellowish-orange color. Plus, the harsh chemicals damaged her hair, and she had to cut it very short to recover.

We learned a valuable lesson here. Let’s leave it to the pros, shall we?

Here are the absolute best hair colorists in Toronto to expertly help make your hair dreams come true. Trust me, they’re worth every penny!

How much do hair coloring services cost in Toronto?

Hair coloring services in Toronto typically range from $80 to $300. A root-touch-up or single-process color starts around $80 to $120, while balayage, highlights, or full-color transformations can run between $150 to $300 or more.
In addition to service type, factors that may affect the price include the salon and the stylist. Some salons also offer service bundles and treatment packages.

How We Chose the Best Hair Colorists in Toronto

Expertise – We chose salons with hair colorists with years of experience, who specialize in precision techniques like balayage, highlights, and color correction.
Customized Color Work –  We highlighted colorists known for tailoring every shade, from natural to bold and fantasy. They should be able to offer classic colors, as well as trendy hues found on social media.
Product Quality – We considered salons that use high-end professional products like Wella, Redken, or Goldwell to provide long-lasting results.
Client Reviews – Of course, we prioritized salons with glowing client feedback, particularly for consistency and color satisfaction.
Value for Money – We picked salons that balance quality and cost, offering beautiful, long-lasting results without necessarily breaking the bank.

Since 2016, BSH Toronto (short for Beauty, Sustainability, and Hair) has been an education-based salon. Meaning, they’re constantly learning new coloring techniques.

If you’re going for color, ask for Alaa, a colorist who studied at West End Hair Academy and is known for his balayage work. He uses a mix of freehand painting, foil back-brushing, and even micro-lighting to create dimension.

He’s also an expert in partial highlights. Using a T-section highlight technique, he targets the most visible areas—top parting, sides, and front.

As for products, the salon uses Davines and World Hair 7 Skin. These are clean, ethical lines, which fit right in with the salon’s sustainability mission.

For new clients, you’ll begin with a consultation to fully understand your hair goals. Note, however, that they’re known to be quite pricey.

  • Over 9 years of experience

I left feeling like a million bucks!

“Omg I really enjoyed how much care this salon gave for my black hair! Especially my stylist, Alaa! I was hesitant to go, because I have relaxed hair but I’m so glad I went. Everyone was super nice and friendly. I left feeling like a million bucks! My search for a stylist is over. Thank you so much!”

So perfect, and I love the way it looks

“I have been dying for red hair for the last year and a half but I have been waiting for my

Lauren is one of their most popular Cut and Color Specialists. She’s known for her Blonding skills—perfect for those who want icy platinum, creamy beige, or soft and golden locks.

Lived-in Color is another specialty, for that low-maintenance, beachy look. This combines different hair-lightening techniques to build dimension and depth.

In addition to their coloring services, clients can choose from their à la carte menu, which includes treatments, glossing, and extensions.

One downside we heard about is that some clients were not happy with the final result of their hair color session, stating that the color was not what they requested. To avoid this, we recommend bringing inspo pics.

Best hair salon I’ve been to in Toronto, hands down

“Lauren was absolutely fabulous. She gave new life to my tired, flat hair. She listened to my wish list, and boy, did she deliver. I just adore the cut she did as well. It’s the best hair salon I’ve been to in Toronto, hands down. If you can get an appt you won’t be disappointed.”

Hair By David & Co’s goal is to provide each client with that “I feel amazing” glow.

Ask for Giselle for vivid full-head hair colors. She’s known to transform clients into rich brunettes and dimensional blondes.

Another specialty she has is giving soft, lived-in hair colors. This effortless look blends natural roots with sun-kissed ends for a very flattering, low-maintenance finish.

She’s also a go-to for medium to extra-long haircuts if you want to book a one-stop shop stylist.

The good news is that if you’re not happy with the result, you can reach out within 10 days, and they’ll work to make it right. You can either go to the same stylist or someone else—totally up to you.

Sadly, we heard about last-minute cancellations, which can definitely be a hassle.

  • Known for full-head, soft, and lived-in hair colors
  • Medium to extra-long haircuts
  • Can correct colors within 10 days

Cons

  • Reports of last-minute cancellations

Giselle has been the absolute best find!

“I researched a lot when looking for a hair stylist when I moved to Toronto, and Giselle has been the absolute best find! She has been doing my hair for over a year now and I absolutely love it. I wanted subtle beige/blonde highlights and she is an artist with it! It always looks super blended and flattering to my skin tone. She is also so fast – my hair used to take hours and hours before Giselle, which I don’t mind – but Giselle being so fast while still being so detailed is a nice perk! She is a true talent and professional. She is also just so friendly and nice to chat with! I love going to Giselle and highly recommend her!”

Someone who truly cares about your hair!

“I had my first appointment with Giselle, and I couldn’t be happier! I’ll admit I came in with some hesitation—I’m pretty particular about my hair—but Giselle completely put me at ease. She was incredibly professional and attentive, listening to exactly what I wanted and offering helpful suggestions. The result? Gorgeous highlights and a stylish cut that I absolutely love! I’m so happy with my new look. Highly recommend Giselle if you’re looking for someone who truly cares about your hair!”

Best salon in the city and great staff

“Best salon in the city and great staff. You can’t go wrong with any of the stylist, but my favourite is Jody. She takes her time and listens to exactly what I want. My hair is so manageable and easy to style on my own, because she understands how to cut my thick wavy hair, so it falls perfectly every time. I also love that it’s a Kevin Murphy Concept Salon, because they are the best products. I get compliments on my hair all the time.”

Assessed my face structure to make custom recommendations

“Beautiful salon and staff! My hairdresser really took the time to assess my hair, face structure, and style to make custom recommendations. I’m so happy I found Evolve and have already booked my next two appointments. 💕”
