I have this friend who couldn’t stop talking about her experience with a family mediation service. She thought her situation was a lost cause—there were just too many arguments and tension, as well as too much hostility.
But with the right mediator, everything shifted. They helped her family talk, listen, and understand each other again.
Hearing her story got me curious about what makes mediators stand out from the rest of the pack, so I did some digging. Here are the top family mediation services in Toronto.
How much do family mediation services cost in Toronto?
amily mediation services in Toronto cost $150 to $400 per hour.
The cost depends on the mediator’s experience and whether it’s a private or a community-based service. Some community mediation centers offer sliding-scale fees or free sessions, while private firms may have package rates for multiple sessions.

Mediate393 provides government-funded family mediation and information services right inside the Superior Court of Justice and two Ontario Courts of Justice.
The program is led by Hilary, a family lawyer, mediator, arbitrator, and dispute resolution teacher. She’s also the President of Riverdale Mediation, so you know you’re in pretty good hands.
Their biggest perk is free on-site mediation (same-day or by appointment). They can help with a wide range of issues like financial disclosures, parenting schedules, and child or spousal support.
We like that mediation is also available at every stage of the court process: first appearances, motions, conferences, pre-trials, and trials.
And for parents juggling work and kids, they offer hybrid mediation via Zoom and in-person.
Keep in mind, however, that we heard reports of mediators arriving late to sessions, which can definitely be frustrating.
Appreciative of the outcome Adrienne created
“Yesterday, we had a mediation session with Adrienne Lee. The past 8 months have been challenging and frustrating. Adrienne was able to work with both parties and mediate the completion of our separation agreement. She has the knowledge and experience in Family Law, a strong personality, and the ability to quickly understand the issues and create options, to allow for agreement by both sides. I am grateful and appreciative of the outcome Adrienne created. Thank you.”

Went above and beyond her duties as a mediator
“Working with Victoria Tundo was amazing. She is an excellent mediator, very professional, very organized, impartial, and provided us with all the information we needed. Victoria also expressed concerns about the topics that we didn’t have a clear for our agreement and provided us with very helpful links so we could do our own research, and the mediations were very pleasant. I would highly recommend working with her; she went above and beyond her duties as a mediator. Thank you so much, Victoria!”

Reflective Mediation was founded in 2014 by Mike MacConnell, an Accredited Family Mediator.
Their process begins with emotional safety and validation, making sure both parties are heard before tackling the tough stuff. Then, they help with all the usual areas: parenting plans, child support, spousal support, and equalization assets.
We admire their goal, which is not to just reach an agreement but to build one you can actually live with. Afterward, they teach clients tools for better communication and long-term peace.
Unlike traditional mediation models, they use mindfulness-informed techniques and emotional processing to help reduce reactivity during discussions.
One thing to watch out for—some previous clients mentioned experiencing biased mediation. It’s a good thing these were isolated reports and not the norm.
Extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, & effective
“Mike is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and effective. He approached my (complex) mediation methodically, always ensured mutual understanding of difficult concepts, and actively managed the atmosphere to ensure it remained constructive. I would happily recommend his services to anybody.”

Worked through core issues with neutrality & compassion
“Both Mike and Brianda were skilled, knowledgeable, and sympathetic to the mediation process. They were able to help both parties work through core issues with neutrality, compassion, and common sense. One-on-one coaching sessions with Mike were extremely valuable. Brianda offers insightful solutions with a very kind approach. Highly recommend Reflective Meditation during a difficult transition in life.”

Toronto Family Therapy & Mediation was founded by Joanna Seidel in 2006. Joanna is not only the Clinical Director, but she’s also a Registered Social Worker, Child and Family Therapist, and Accredited Family Mediator.
Her team is composed of professionals with backgrounds in psychology, social work, counselling, and family mediation.
Their session starts with an official agreement between both parties that outlines exactly what conflicts will be addressed in mediation, from financial matters to parenting plans.
After that, each person has an individual intake session with their mediator to share their story and set goals for what they want out of the mediation.
Everything seems to be quite organized, so we were surprised to hear about the team’s lack of response to queries.
Allows me to feel comfortable and safe
“Regina is an excellent listener and makes me feel like she really understands me. Regina is nonjudgmental, which allows me to feel comfortable and safe opening up to her with whatever is bothering me. Regina is a wonderful person, and I love speaking with her because I feel so much better after that. When I don’t hear from her, I honestly miss her … she is so positive and makes me feel like I am important.”

She genuinely cares about my family
“I came to Toronto Family Therapy and Mediation in distress about my son’s mental health, my marriage, and co-parenting. I am working with Regina and have felt fully supported. She has a warm and practical approach and has assisted me with very challenging conversations. She genuinely cares about my family and wants what is best for my son.”

Business Hours: Mon – Fri: 9 AM–5 PM
Since 2001, Riverdale Mediation has been helping families navigate separation and divorce. The firm is led by Hilary (yep, the same one who leads Mediate393).
Their mediation roster includes a retired family court judge, family lawyers who also speak French and Farsi, and recognized leaders in the field. The mix of legal and cultural expertise helps clients feel understood and supported.
We like that their mediators respect the voice of the child, discussing options to make sure that children’s needs and rights are properly represented in any agreement.
When it comes to cost, they charge flat rates for intake meetings, plus flat half-day and full-day rates for mediation sessions. If more time is needed, they charge hourly rates, which both parties usually split equally.
Since the intake and matching process is quite structured, there may be limited availability for urgent cases.
One of the top mediators in the GTA
“Hilary Linton is one of the top mediators in the GTA, if not in Ontario. Her ability to move the parties towards resolution borders on magic. Her mixture of compassion and firmness works wonders. Every one of my many mediations with her was successful. She works tirelessly towards resolution, even if it means a 12-hour day. If you want the best, mediate with Hilary.”
