5 Top Ear Wax Removal Clinics in Toronto

Regularly cleaning the outside of your ears prevents earwax buildup. Just make sure not to poke too deep so you don’t injure the inside of your ears.

And, to ensure that there’s no wax buildup in your ears, it’s best to have them cleaned by a professional every six months.

We’ve rounded up the top ear wax removal clinics in Toronto where you can have your ears cleaned professionally.

Top Ear Wax Removal Clinics in Toronto

Hearing clinics usually offer ear wax removal as one of their services. That is why clinics have other services they provide to their patients.

We based the top ear wax removal clinics in Toronto on the following criteria:

How much do ear wax removal services cost?

The cost of ear wax removal depends on the buildup you have. Ear wax buildup can be classified into two types, simple and complicated.

For both methods, the specialist will inspect your ear canals with an otoscope to determine if it is necessary to clean out your ear wax.

If yes, they can remove the ear wax using a curette and gentle flushing. This is a simple ear wax removal method and it usually takes about 15 minutes.

The complex ear wax removal method, on the other hand, involves using mineral oil to soften the ear wax and then flushing it. This takes up to 30 minutes or days since it involves multiple flushing treatments to fully remove the ear wax.

Listed below are the prices for the simple and complicated ear wax removal method for both adults and children.

ServiceCost
Simple ear wax removal (adult and children)$45 - $55
Complex ear wax removal (adult and children)$75 and above

Regardless of the method used – such as mechanical, microsuction, and irrigation – the price above stays the same.

Accessibility – Accessibility is a key factor for any medical service. The clinic should be accessible and near public transportation.
Ear wax removal servicesThe clinic should offer both simple and complex ear wax removal. The different ear wax removal methods are also considered to provide the best service for the patient.
Insurance coverage Ear wax removal, unfortunately, is no longer covered by insurance. However, we still included insurance coverage, particularly for the clinic’s other services.

Toronto Family Hearing has been providing comprehensive hearing aid and audiology services to patients in the Toronto area since 2013.

The clinic is located in the center of the busy city, making their services available and accessible to everyone.

The clinic prioritizes the patient’s auditory health. Before getting your ears cleaned, patients are encouraged to undergo a hearing test first.

Take note, that you no longer need a doctor’s referral to get your hearing checked.

Now, on to their ear wax removal service.

The clinic offers three ear wax removal methods depending on what is best for the patient’s ear wax buildup. The specialist first checks the buildup and then informs the patient of the method they will be using.

The clinic offers mechanical (curettage), microsuction, and irrigation. Offering different methods is good to ensure the patient’s comfort or if one method cannot be conducted due to the patient’s ear status.

The clinic’s ear wax removal services are performed by audiologists. They are licensed to do ear cleaning, ear aid fitting, and ear infection treatment.

Unfortunately, public health insurance like Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover ear wax removal. Not to worry though, since the clinic does entertain third-party health insurance.

Pros

  • Offers different methods of ear wax removal
  • Informative, patient, and accomodating staff and audiologists

Cons

  • No list accredited third-party insurance providers mentioned in the website
  • Does not have clinic during the weekends

The House of Hearing has served over 14,000 patients since 2011. The clinic specializes in providing hearing tests, tinnitus treatment, ear wax removal, and custom earplugs depending on their patient’s needs.

In terms of accessibility, this clinic offers just that. They have clinics in six cities across the Greater Toronto Area.

Patients can now choose the branch that’s closest to them, and that’s a definite plus for us. That’s less travel time and more time to address their hearing concerns.

The clinic offers two main ear wax removal methods, simple and complex. Both involve checking the ear’s wax buildup using an otoscope.

For complex procedures, the specialist will use the clinic’s Cerumol or Audiologist’s Choice to soften the ear wax. This is then followed up by gentle flushing.

We wish they offered other ear wax removal methods such as microsuction. This enables patients to decide which method best works for them.

Professionally trained and certified Hearing Instrument Specialists conduct the clinic’s services. They received certifications and training from Phonak, AHIP, and other reputable organizations, so you’re assured of their credibility.

Beyond their credibility, the staff and the specialists were honest, efficient, and accommodating. Patients told us how they felt like the clinic prioritized them.

Fortunately, public insurance like OHIP covers the clinic’s coverable services.

Pros

  • Multiple locations
  • Services covered by public insurance like OHIP

Cons

  • Limited ear wax removal methods
  • Does not have clinic during the weekends

Toronto Audiology Associates offers various services that cater to hearing protection and restoration.

Location-wise, the clinic is easy to get to. It is located near major streets and expressways, so you can easily travel to the clinic.

Apart from this, they also use the latest technology and equipment to ensure that patients get the best possible hearing care.

Let’s get to their ear wax removal services. The clinic uses three methods to remove ear wax buildup. These are curettage, endoscopic microsuction, and irrigation using their Earigator.

Offering these three is good since there are patients that are sensitive to sound and cannot stand the noise produced by microsuction. Others might have a perforated eardrum and irrigation is not a viable option.

By having these three, the audiologist can perform the best ear wax removal for the patient’s case.

Patients sing praises of the audiologists in the clinic and we agree.

The clinic’s three-woman team has been providing excellent service, particularly their ear wax removal procedure. We agree with the patients that they were professional, welcoming, and transparent.

Their light hands made the overall experience pain-free. Apart from ear wax removal, the clinic also offers other services such as hearing tests, hearing aid evaluation, custom earplugs depending on your needs, and more.

As of writing, the clinic accepts third-party health insurance for their hearing aid evaluation and fitting service. We hope that they partner with more health insurance providers to cover their other services as well.

Pros

  • Excellent audiologists
  • Provides various ear wax removal methods

Cons

  • Partner third-party health insurance only covers hearing aid
  • More branches would be good

Audiosense Hearing, Balance & Concussion offers a variety of audiological care to the people of Toronto, such as custom hearing aids, hearing services, and balance assessment and treatment.

Location-wise, the clinic is accessible as it is located on one of the busy roads in Toronto. There are nearby bus stops in the area, making it easy for you to commute to the clinic.

While known best for their hearing aid assessment (including fitting) and cochlear implants, the clinic also offers ear wax removal services.

For their ear wax removal service, the audiologist first inspects your ears and the type of ear wax buildup you have. They then use curettes and irrigators if the case is a simple wax buildup.

For hard earwax, the clinic advises that the patient first put drops of mineral oil or natural oil to their ears to soften the wax.

Overall, the experience of having the ear wax removed at this clinic is satisfying. Apart from being accommodating, the audiologists were extremely skilled as well.

Other patients also shared how they experienced little to no discomfort as they got their ears cleaned. The clinic provided the service without being sold other treatments unless needed, which earns them plus points in our book.

Another good thing that we’d also like to point out is that the clinic offers balance assessment and treatment and concussion management. By offering these treatments, the clinic ensures the patient’s audiological health and the health of the other areas affected are functioning well.

While not covered by public health insurance, the clinic accepts third-party health insurance providers. If you have one, you can definitely use it to reimburse your service or treatment.

Apart from that, we do hope that they have additional branches in key areas of the country. This way, they’ll be able to address the needs of more patients with different audiological concerns.

Pros

  • Offers a variety of hearing care services
  • Extremely skilled audiologists

Cons

  • Need additional branches
  • Clinic is not open during the weekends

Hearing Aid Source was founded in 2006 and continues to provide accessible hearing health procedures for everyone in the area.

Hearing Aid Source has two locations, one in Toronto and Scarborough. This is a definite plus for us as patients near these two locations no longer have to travel far for their audiological care.

Apart from ear wax removal, the establishment is actually dedicated to providing their patients with custom-fit hearing aids and hearing aids accessories. They ensure that patients get the best hearing aid and hearing treatment that solves their specific hearing problems.

Another thing that we’d like to take note of is that they offer a free hearing test. Patients no longer have to worry about shelling out money for the service, and it also encourages regular ear checks.

On to their ear wax removal service.

The establishment promises a fast ear wax removal service that can be completed in 10 minutes. While this is good, they did not specify the type of ear wax removal methods they’re going to use.

We found this irksome. Patients have varying ear structures and levels of ear wax buildup.

Offering various ear wax removal methods will enable the patients to choose the best method that they’re comfortable with. It also enables the clinic to use the best method that gets the job done.

Interestingly, the establishment is not run by audiologists. Since the clinic’s focus is on hearing aids, the staff are more specialized in finetuning and maintaining the patient’s physical hearing solutions.

While they’re good at what they do, if you’re looking for an audiologist, it’s best to consider the other clinics listed in this article.

Having no audiologists also affects the clinic’s insurance coverage. Typically, audiologist consultations and procedures are covered by public health insurance.

Since they don’t have any audiologists, they’re not covered by public health insurance. However, if you have a personal one, you can contact your insurance if you have a hearing aid fitting and purchase.

The best thing the establishment can do is to hire audiologists to build patient trust as well as allow the establishment to provide further care to their patients.

Pros

  • Has two locations
  • Free hearing test

Cons

  • No audiologists in the establishment
  • Clinic is not open during the weekends
