1. So Hip Toronto

QUALITY OF ITEMS | ★★★★★ |
RANGE OF SELECTION | ★★★★★ |
STORE DESIGN | ★★★★★ |
REPUTATION | ★★★★☆ |
Being the oldest skate shop in downtown Toronto, there is no doubt that a large community of skaters trust So Hip Toronto. This shop has been selling skateboards, snowboards, skate clothing, shoes, and accessories since 1991.
They ship all their products across Canada, offering free deliveries for orders over CAD 136. Parcels can be received the next day for nearby orders, while most take 3 to 10 business days.
They also put a lot of footwear, boards, clothing, and outerwear on sale every now and then. We do note that items on sale are usually final and may not be returned or exchanged, which can be a setback.
On the bright side, what we like most about this shop is how they hold trusted skate brands such as Vans while carrying their own popular products. Their place in Queens is also one of the go-tos because of the number of boards that you can look at.
Payments are also quite convenient as they accept major credit cards and even PayPal. All transactions are monitored through Shopify.
There honestly isn’t much to dislike about So Hip because of all the conveniences that it offers. Probably the only downside you can note is that it’s too popular that stocks tend to run out fast.
So Hip Toronto is a tried and tested skate shop. You can trust that paying a visit to their physical and online store will be worth it.
Pros
- Has experience in skate essentials retail since 1991
- Carries both their own products and popular skate brand items
- Ships across Canada and offers free deliveries for orders over CAD 136
Cons
- Sale items cannot be returned or exchanged
- Stocks tend to run out fast

2. Hammer Skateboard

QUALITY OF ITEMS | ★★★★★ |
RANGE OF SELECTION | ★★★★★ |
STORE DESIGN | ★★★★☆ |
REPUTATION | ★★★★☆ |
Another skate shop you can find in Queens is Hammer Skateboard, an independent skater-owned shop that has been serving the Greater Toronto Area for 18 years now.
They have slowly expanded across Canada as well, with their build your board offer becoming popular.
Build your board by Hammer Skateboard allows customers to customise their skateboards by allowing them to choose their preferred size, deck, wheels, bearings, hardware, and even assembly.
On top of customisable products, they also carry items from popular skate brands. Most items are available in-store and online.
Orders can be made online and they sometimes offer free delivery on top of purchases. We like how this shop has various skateboard accessories such as tape, stickers, hardware, and more.
They also have books relating to skateboards, along with starting kits and items for kids and skateboard beginners. Safety gear is available for all ages, making them a great choice.
We do note that assemblies, especially those that are very particular, can take a while before they are delivered. A lot of customers also say this, but they argue that the products are worth the wait.
We also note that the Hammer Skateboard is not the best in terms of aesthetic and that they can do more to make the layout and design of their physical shop more enticing.
Overall, we recommend Hammer Skateboard because they understand the need for safe, durable, and personalised skateboarding materials. Rest assured that the shopping experience will be bespoke.
Pros
- 18 years experience
- Boards are customisable
- Has safe and starting packs for kids and beginners
Cons
- Assembled boards can take a while in terms of delivery
- Can do more in terms of shop’s interior design

A great selection of well priced products
“I don’t even live in the east end and I shop here. They have a great selection of well priced products. Store is dope. Even if you can’t get there, do an online order. They are super fast with their online service. Like amazon fast. Def. recommend.” — Adam Christl, via Google
My go-to skate shop
“Just got my online order. It came seriously fast and was packaged perfectly. They didn’t use a bunch of filler but everything was taped and protected. Nice job. Prices were great. Definitely my go-to skate shop.
I live over an hour away but I’ll make a trip hopefully this summer.” — David Dombroskie, via Google
3. Blue Tile Lounge

QUALITY OF ITEMS | ★★★★★ |
RANGE OF SELECTION | ★★★★☆ |
STORE DESIGN | ★★★★★ |
REPUTATION | ★★★★☆ |
Blue Tile Lounge is among the experienced skate shops in Toronto, being a skater-owned and operated shop since the original BTL Park in 1997.
Design is one of the assets of this shop because their skateboards are coloured and illustrated with unique elements. Their own line of products are well-branded with their logo and signature styles.
In addition to product design, their shop is one of the coolest skate shops you will walk in to as well. They have a refreshing display of products and they carry a lot of famous shoe brands such as Adidas, Nike, Vans, New Balance, and Converse.
We also like how products are returnable within 30 days of purchase, subject to quality check. They have gift cards that you can purchase as well, along with their own blog that provides updates and relevant skate information.
Selection is a bit tricky for this shop. While they have options to choose from, we noticed that their range of choices is quite smaller compared to other shops.
Sale items cannot be returned. This can be a dealbreaker as well, because a lot of people are very meticulous and wouldn’t want to risk their money.
Still, we believe that Blue Tile Lounge is a fitting skate shop for those who are looking for equipment and other necessities. Their tenure and knowledge make them a safe option.
Pros
- 25 years in the industry
- Great product and shop design
- Good branding and logo
- Carries plenty of famous shoe brands
Cons
- Selection is smaller than competitors’
- Sale items cannot be returned

4. Longboard Living

QUALITY OF ITEMS | ★★★★☆ |
RANGE OF SELECTION | ★★★★★ |
STORE DESIGN | ★★★★☆ |
REPUTATION | ★★★★☆ |
Branding itself as a storefront and online shop for all level riders, Longboard Living has been serving Toronto and areas across Canada since 2008. They offer specialised
service and sales to thousands of boarders.
The range of selection that you can choose from their simple physical shop is overwhelming. They have a lot of items carried from various brands alongside their own products.
Electric skateboards are available here. You can also choose from their list of complete skateboards, with some having visually appealing wood finishes.
The best thing about Longboard Living is that they don’t just sell skateboards and other related equipment, they also teach people how to use them.
Workshops are available either as private lessons or drop in and these are especially safe and recommended for kids. Safety gear can be purchased from them as well.
With all these conveniences, availing anything from Longboard Living means spending quite much. Their high-end products are expensive and their workshops aren’t the most affordable as well.
We also note that there are several complaints about some staff members being rude and some items having damages, which are never helpful. Still, the bad reviews are outweighed by the good ones.
Longboard Living is a great place if you have enough budget to splurge on skateboards and related items. Their products will definitely get you in style while you skate.
Pros
- A storefront and online shop for all level riders
- Has electric skateboards
- Skateboard workshops are available
Cons
- Products are expensive
- Some staff members are reportedly rude

5. Zumiez

QUALITY OF ITEMS | ★★★★★ |
RANGE OF SELECTION | ★★★★☆ |
STORE DESIGN | ★★★★☆ |
REPUTATION | ★★★★☆ |
With the first Zumiez branch opened in Seattle in 1978, Zumiez has grown into a well-known skate shop in the United States and Canada. Its Toronto branch is a chain that offers brand-name clothing and shoes, and skate and snowboarding gear.
Zumiez Toronto is more of a fashion store, as skate clothing and shoes outnumber their skateboards, snowboards, and gear. They made the cut because of the quality of their products given the reputation that their brand carries.
On top of that, even if you cannot find a skateboard in the physical store, you can always shop online and have it delivered to the Toronto branch. You can also ask their staff to assist you with this.
Their overall inventory of products is really nice. Their skateboards are well-designed and there are hundreds to choose from, with prices that won’t break the bank.
They also have a separate section where you can shop for kids. This makes them a safe choice if you need equipment and gear for your children.
We do note that ordering from their shop online and having it delivered to the Toronto branch or your doorstep can take weeks, which we hope they will address.
All said, we believe that Zumiez is a great skate brand and that visiting their Toronto branch won’t hurt. The shop is well-lit and is inviting, too!
Pros
- Brand has been around for 44 years
- Shop is well-lit
- Offers brand-name products
- Well-designed skateboards
Cons
- Toronto branch only carries a few skateboards
- Deliveries sometimes take weeks
