There is no waste disposal service in Toronto that is as reliable as the city’s very own. With Toronto Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Depot, residents are able to drop-off their garbage in seven different collection locations.

Among these seven drop-off locations, six accept household hazardous waste, while all of them accept certain hazardous waste. This is very convenient as many people in the city would likely have less to no time in finding a disposal service.

Do take note that a motorised vehicle is required to drop off waste for disposal and all loads must be secure. They do not permit walk-ins, bicycles, and manual transportation devices.

A minimum CAD 50 deposit is also collected so that the administrators will be able to properly handle the garbage. This amount adjusts according to the type of waste and the heaviness of each load, which we find only fair enough.

In terms of hazardous waste, we like how they are able to handle almost any type of hazardous items down to potentially toxic waste. Household items, electronics, tires, metal, and yard waste are only some of the items they can handle.

We especially like how they can also handle renovation waste. This is a very smart way of helping households and their community.

Honestly, there isn’t much to dislike about the city’s waste collection service. We do acknowledge that they do not have pickup options, which may lead others to find a service with such.

Overall, the Toronto Drop-off Depot is a reliable place for hazardous waste. After dropping off your garbage, you can trust that they will handle it well.

Pros

  • Has seven drop-off locations all over the city
  • Accepts many kinds of household hazardous waste
  • Knowledgeable in handling even renovation waste
  • Very transparent in terms of schedule and accepted items

Cons

  • Requires people to drop-off using a motorised vehicle
  • No pickup options

Established in 2009, GIC Medical’s goal has always been to be a competitive, flexible and customer-oriented hazardous waste company. They specialise in chemical disposal and RX waste disposal in Toronto, but are flexible and available in other areas as well.

They have a total of 20 locations in Ontario and cater to different industries such as medical offices, hospitals, care facilities, laboratories, and even funeral homes.

What we like most about seeking the assistance of this service is the fact that they are knowledgeable in various medical wastes. We also like how they have a partner company who helps them handle hazardous waste more efficiently.

Another good thing is that they do not oblige people to get tied to them. There are no long term contracts and they do not have hidden fees as well, so they are very convenient to choose in case of any emergencies or even for first-time scenarios.

This place also offers their own line of products, which are convenient for waste disposal as well. These include sharp containers and waste bags for biomedical waste or other hazardous items.

We do note that given that this is a specialised service, they can be quite more expensive than other waste disposal services. This is also not for one-time waste disposal customers and more suited for businesses.

Pros

  • More than a decade in the business
  • Has 20 locations all over Ontario
  • Caters to different medical industries
  • Has a partner company for better hazardous waste disposal
  • Products such as sharp containers and waste bags are available

Cons

  • Not recommended for one-time waste disposals
  • Rates can be more expensive than most

CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT★★★★★

With over 15 years of industry experience, Greenbelt Environmental Services is a family-owned and operated waste disposal and management business. Their primary goal is to decrease the amount of waste headed for landfill.

The best part about hiring this service is that they show genuine concern and support for the environment. They work with state-of-the-art facilities and emerging technology and even offer complimentary services for LEED-compliant organisations.

Services can either be for home or business. They have available same day services and 24/7 emergency communication channels.

We like how they offer hazardous waste removal, including asbestos and mould abatement, along with debris and even dirt removal. They also have mini-bins in 4, 6, 10, 15 and 20 cubic yard sizes.

We do note that their delivery and pick-up are for roll-off containers and trucks from 4-40 yards or 2-8 yards. This option is perfect for both big and small businesses and is not that convenient for households.

We also find that their services are pricey, but we can argue that the quality of what they do makes the rates worth it.

For those with properly managed waste, you can even earn a few bucks from this business. They purchase materials such as cardboard, plastics, scrap metal, and e-waste.

Greenbelt Environmental Services is the best choice for those who care for the environment. They will help you dispose of your hazardous waste while doing great things for our surroundings.

Pros

  • Has been in the waste disposal industry for over 15 years
  • Same day services are available
  • 24/7 communication channels
  • Performs hazardous waste removal services

Cons

  • Delivery and pick-up have load requirements
  • Pricey

If you want to dispose of hazardous items with the thought of hoping they can be recycled, Waste Diversion is the place to go to. They started as a broker and large volume handler of waste lamps and are now recycling and hazardous waste experts.

This service promises that they can handle hard to recycle items and hazardous waste. We can say that they have been doing good so far.

As of writing, they have recycled at least 118, 500 pounds of lamps, 5,140 pounds of batteries, and 34,011 pounds of lamps in 2022 alone.

They also have the capacity to handle and recycle hazardous liquids. An example of this is paint, which they have recycled 2,539 pounds in 2022 alone.

The good thing is that they charge by weight, making costs more transparent. This also makes them a great choice for one-time customers or small home owners.

We find it impressive that this place also works with ballasts, toilets, and even oil. They also assist home and business owners in their disposal and recycling journeys by putting up their own line of storage solutions and quality bins for sale.

There isn’t really anything alarming about this service. However, we acknowledge that they do not cater to all hazardous waste and can still do more in expanding their list of accepted waste.

We also note that their same day services are not always guaranteed and that they may be available on the next business day. Still, this is a great speed for a waste disposal service.

We recommend Waste Diversion to anyone who has hazardous waste at home or in their office. They will definitely recycle those properly and their waste handling experience traces back to as early as 1977.

Pros

  • Experience traces back to as early as 1977
  • Disposes and recycles hazardous waste
  • Charges waste by weight
  • Sells their own line of storage solutions and waste bins

Cons

  • Can do more in extending list of accepted hazardous waste
  • Same day service is not always guaranteed

Waste Management is commonly known as WM, is a large garbage and recycling service that focuses on environmental stewardship and customer service. They cater to both home and business owners all over Ontario.

Their hazardous waste services are pretty common, but they made the cut given their great process. They assist homeowners in disposing of paints, chemicals, and automotive products.

They also safely recycle and dispose of complicated materials such as batteries, bulbs, and lamps. Bin and dumpster rentals are also available for businesses or even homes with an overwhelming amount of hazardous or hard to dispose of waste.

WM also offers commercial and industrial hazardous waste management and disposal for businesses. They also provide waste solutions for businesses and assist them in other concerns such as sustainability services and electronics recycling.

Bulk trash pickups are also offered. We do warn that some of their services can be late, with some customers experiencing having to call again for a follow-up pickup.

It is also important to note that they usually don’t allow services to be canceled. This may be an inconvenience to some, but we understand where they are coming from.

Overall, Waste Management or WM is a safe choice for hazardous waste disposal be it at home or office. They can get the job done and have enough knowledge of such materials.

  • Assists businesses with industrial and commercial hazardous waste
