Bailey Nelson was founded in Bondi Beach in 2012 and since then, it has skyrocketed into a worldwide brand, establishing locations in London, New Zealand, and Canada.
The store has their own design team based in Australia, hence it’s no surprise that they offer a wide selection of trendy and stylish eyewear! We especially like their range of cat-eye and aviator glasses.
It’s also impressive how Bailey Nelson has German-made barrel hinges for their frames, which they claim to surpass 100,000 uses!
All frames have their maximum number of hinge barrels used to maximise durability and longevity.
Bailey Nelson provides eye exams as part of their services. In addition to checking your vision, they can look for early indications of diseases including diabetes, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
Eyewear items start at $169.00, and two pairs may be purchased for $269.00, which we think is a good deal.
The store has several special offers, such as student and teacher discounts, free shipping for orders over $150.00, and 30-day free returns or exchange. They offer 1-year manufacture warranties for all their glasses, too.
However, we’ve heard complaints that, despite the glasses’ high quality, it takes too long for them to arrive, whether you ordered them online or you’re waiting for a certain model to be in stock.
Further, we found that the customer service is inconsistent and unresponsive at times.
There was also a number of buyers who said that the store’s staff wasn’t able to keep up with appointments and answer their inquiries and concerns.
Pros
- Has own design team based in Australia
- Excellent variety
- Offers eye exams
- Fair prices
- Free shipping for orders over $150.00
- 30-day returns or exchange
Cons
- Eyeglasses take too long to arrive
- Inconsistent customer service

Glass Monocle Eyecare is a one-stop eyewear store based in Toronto known for designer frames.
While they do not have their own designs, they do carry several high-end international eyewear brands, such as Ray Ban, Oakley, Tom Ford, Armani, and Prada. If you have a penchant for luxury, we think this shop is a must-visit!
Their physical stores have large assortments of frames, although their website only lists a small number of items. If the store wants to attract more customers, we think they should they beef up their listing to include a detailed selection.
As for Glass Monocle Eyecare’s licensed optometrists offer comprehensive eye exams that assess visual acuity and the overall health of your eyes.
Expert opticians can assist you in choosing the best eyeglasses, frame, sunglasses, or contact lenses, and qualified optometrists can do your eye tests.
A customer shared with us that they appreciated the doctor at Glass Monocle Eyecare, saying that the doctor took the time to patiently explain every step of the session and answer all of their questions.
Unfortunately, the staff are apparently not as not as good as the doctors. Some customers mentioned that they lack knowledge on eyeglass frames, resulting in poor customer assistance.
Additionally, we noticed that they can be quite confrontational. The way they handle criticism and feedback could significantly be improved.
It’s good news though that Glass Monocle Eyecare offers discounts regularly. Their discounted designer frames are priced $160.00 on average.
Pros
- High-quality eyewear products
- High-end designer frames
- Eye exams
- Reasonable prices
- Discounts are given regularly
Cons
- Limited selection in online store
- Issues with staff lacking knowledge and sensitivity
Customer Reviews
The staff made the process easy
“Great experience at this store. I was helped by Andrew and he made the process easy. He asked me my price range so I wouldn’t fall in love with a pair that was out of budget. He knew the inventory in the store and was able to quickly pull out pairs that looked good on me. I don’t think I spent more than 10 minutes trying on pairs before finding ‘the one’. I will definitely return here when I’m ready for my next pair of glasses!” —Monique Baskin, Google Reviews
Helpful and kind staff
“Such a great experience dealing with Peter here. He was helpful, kind and so very patient with me. They did not rest until I was comfortable with my new glasses and I really appreciated that.” —Rovena A., Google Reviews

Independent eyewear manufacturer Ollie Quinn offers frames composed of premium acetate and stainless steel, high-performance lenses, and complete Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B protection.
They advertise selling high-quality eyeglasses; however, we’ve found out through customer surveys that while the build, styling, and frame longevity are all impressive, the lens durability falls short of expectations.
Nonetheless, Ollie Quinn having their in-house designer is a huge selling point for us.
They have a wide collection of fashionable eyeglasses for men and women and what’s more, they offer Avulux migraine glasses!
All eyeglasses at Ollie Quinn are priced at $205.00, which includes special lenses and coatings. There will be additional costs if you have a strong or complicated prescription.
On one hand, their sunglasses cost $185.00 each.
These prices are on the expensive side. We also think it would be better to give customers the option to purchase eyeglasses without extra lenses or coatings.
The store does provide free shipping on all eyeglasses and sunglasses orders over $50.00, and frames have a 1-year manufacturer warranty.
Ollie Quinn has eye testing for children and seniors as well as general comprehensive eye exams. However, it’s disappointing to learn that some customers felt their eye exams were being rushed.
Another service offered by the store is virtual frame assistance, wherein you can meet with one of their team members online and they will answer your questions and even suggest frames that suit your style and needs.
We believe this virtual frame assistance service is helpful and innovative at the same time.
Pros
- Good quality and stylish frames
- In-house designer
- Offers migraine glasses
- Free shipping for orders over $50.00
- Virtual frame assistance
Cons
- Lens durability can be improved
- Expensive
- Remarks on rushed eye exams

Optical Thirty8 is another Toronto-based eyewear store that specialises in designer frames.
Their extensive collection of designer brands includes BVLGARI, Coach, D&G, Dior, Fendi, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, and more!
Sadly, they do not have an online store, but you can use their comprehensive website as a catalog and save your favorite eyewear items. Their website is equipped with a virtual try-on feature, too.
What makes Optical Thirty8 stand out for us is their even more wide-ranging eye services. They have adult and senior eye exams, children’s exams, and diabetic eye exams.
Furthermore, dry eye therapy, eye disease diagnosis and management, and emergency eye care are available. On top of that, they provide specialty eyewear.
According to some customers we talked to, Optical Thirty8’s doctors were of big help when it came to eye exams and check-ups.
For instance, a customer highlighted how one of their optometrists was very patient, comforting, and accommodating of their questions and concerns.
However, there were a few buyers who expressed their dissatisfaction because of the store’s delivery and appointment delays.
As for pricing, discounted eyewear can cost as low as $150.00. In spite of that, we’ve observed that there is a continuous price increase among the store’s collections.
Pros
- First-rate eyewear products
- Extensive collection of designer brands
- Wide range of eye exams and check-ups
- Specialty eyewear

Customer care | ★★★★☆ (4/5) |
Pearle Vision goes from educating you about your eyes and advanced care options to helping you find the perfect pair of glasses and talking straight about prices.
What we like about Pearle Vision the most is besides offering a vast collection of designer frames, they also have their own signature glasses.
They offer the Pearle ELITE, which is their most lightweight pair with the widest viewing zones, and the Pearle SELECT, which is intended for crisp and clear vision.
Some of their designer frame collections consist of Burberry, Michael Kors, Polo, Ralph Lauren, and Versace.
In addition, Pearle Vision provides various eye examinations, like visual acuity, keratometry (for signs of astigmatism), colour blindness, glaucoma, and so on.
Another thing that we like about this eyewear store is their very own protection plan.
Usual wear and tear, accidental damage from handling, repairs or replacements for the duration of the protection plan, and protection from day one are all included in the coverage.
A 1-year plan costs $34.95, which is an incredible bargain in our opinion. As for their glasses, the average cost is $150.00, which we think is also affordable.
Pearle Vision offers discounts, too; as of writing, they are offering 40% off for lenses. They have 30-day guarantees as well.
However, there is no option to order eyeglasses online. Moreover, their adjustments and cleaning services apparently don’t meet customer standards.
We were informed by a previous client that the staff wasn’t careful enough as their lens had scratches after the service.
Pros
- Good quality eyewear
- Vast collection of designer frames
- Signature glasses
- Eye exams
- Affordable protection plan
- Budget-friendly products
- Huge discounts
- 30-day guarantee
Cons
- No online store
- Adjustment/cleaning service could be improved
