The Best Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centres in Toronto That Help Locals Break Free from Addiction

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

As someone with a journalism degree, I’m used to digging deep, whether it’s a hot-button local issue or the best resources for someone in need. So, when a friend asked for recos for Toronto rehab centers, I knew I had to find the best options.

So, I went into full investigative mode. After combing through countless resources and even talking to former patients, I narrowed it down to the top-rated facilities that prioritize not just recovery, but also compassion and long-term success.

My friend is now almost a year sober, a testament to the power of finding the right support.

This list, built on my research and real-life experience, is for anyone seeking that same hope. It’s a chance to reclaim your life or the life of someone you love.

Costs can vary widely depending on factors like facility type, amenities, and program length.

Rehab Services: We prioritized centers with top-notch rehabilitation services. This includes medical detox, medication management, therapy (individual & group), and relapse prevention programs.
Treatment Focus & Individualized Plans: We looked for centers offering personalized treatment plans based on individual needs. These address specific addictions and underlying causes.
Accreditation & Qualified Staff: Facilities with accreditation and highly qualified, experienced staff (therapists, counselors, and medical professionals) were key in our selection.
Success Rates & Aftercare Programs: Transparency in success rates and the availability of strong aftercare programs for lasting recovery were crucial factors we considered.
Treatment Options & Amenities: A variety of treatment modalities (detox options, behavioral therapies, holistic approaches) and access to amenities were considered.
Cost Transparency & Payment Options: Clear communication on pricing, including options for insurance and financing, was essential for our informed decisions.
Client Reviews & Testimonials: Positive client experiences and success stories offered valuable insights into the center’s effectiveness and overall atmosphere.
Safety & Security: Secure facilities with 24/7 supervision, protocols for emergencies, and a focus on preventing relapse were prioritized.
Flexibility & Length of Stay: Facilities offering flexible program lengths to accommodate individual needs and recovery stages were considered.

Sat - Sun: 8 AM – 6 PM

EHN Bellwood Toronto takes a science-based approach, with licensed medical pros like psychiatrists and addiction specialists involved every step of the way. They offer inpatient, outpatient, and even virtual options to fit your needs.

We like that they have a network of accredited facilities and licensed hospitals, so you know you’re getting top-notch care. They even design personalized treatment plans based on your specific situation, whether it’s mild, moderate, or severe addiction.

Their program includes therapy sessions (both individual and group), healing environments, and comprehensive programming to keep things well-rounded.

And the best part is that their care goes beyond your initial treatment—they offer extended care options and an alumni network for ongoing support.

Unfortunately, we heard reports of people being discharged unexpectedly.  It might be a good idea to clarify their discharge policies before you commit.

I would not be alive on this earth if I had not gone to Bellwood

“When I got to Bellwood I was nearly dead. I had been to other treatment centres before, but I always relapsed and couldn’t maintain my recovery. Broken and bruised, I was dropped off at Bellwood on November 29, 2021, my family wanted nothing to do with me and this was my final attempt at turning my life around. It took me 12 days to detox, and it was the most painful experience of my life. But I could not have done it without the exceptional staff at Bellwood. I felt safe and cared for, I knew that they weren’t going to let me die. The entire medical staff from the doctors to the nurses to the support staff.. I could not have done this without them. Once I was stable enough to leave detox, I was able to participate and start the programming part of my treatment. The facilitators, the topics, and my personal counsellor were all outstanding. The food was amazing, the grounds are absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed all of the exercise and ravine walks. I couldn’t be more grateful for my life today and I would not be alive on this earth if I had not gone to Bellwood. I am just over 18 months, clean and sober. My family is starting to trust me again and for the first time in 15 years, I feel like I am seeing the world through clear eyes. Thank you Bellwood for helping me get my life back ❤️”

2. Addiction Rehab Toronto

ADDRESS4 Warrendale Ct, Etobicoke, ON M9V 1P9, Canada

(289) 216-5671

OPERATING HOURSMon - Sun: Open 24 hours

Addiction Rehab Toronto offers treatment options for all sorts of addictions, from alcohol to prescription drugs. They take a whole-person approach, which means they dig deeper to understand the root of your addiction, not just treat the symptoms.

Their team of experts includes folks trained to deal with mental health issues like PTSD and anxiety, which can often be linked to addiction. Also, their program includes yoga, art therapy, and even off-site trips to keep things interesting.

And they don’t just focus on therapy. They have a swanky facility with amenities galore like exercise rooms, music studios, a basketball court, and even a private chef, which we think is pretty cool.

Sadly, we came across former patients who complained about their inexperienced staff. While the amenities are impressive, having a solid team is crucial for recovery.

  • Takes a whole-person approach to treatment
  • Staff trained to deal with mental health issues
  • Yoga, art therapy, and off-site trips
  • Top-notch amenities

  • Reports of inexperienced staff

Hands down the best treatment center I have ever been to

“Addiction Rehab Toronto is hands down the best treatment center I have ever been to and I’ve been to more then a few. They’re over staffed witch is great. Their is always someone to speak to at any time of the day or night. The groups are very educational and well organized. All the staff cares and keeps you on the right path to better your life. ART doesn’t just teach you how to stop using drugs they teach you how to change your way of thinking and how to live a fullfilled life. I never wanted to be part of a 12 step fellowship in the past and I can happily say ART has changed my mind. ART doesn’t push 12 step on you, if you want to do it they will help guide you you and offer everything you need to begin your journey. The food is amazing. The facility is very clean with lots of amenities and actives for you and your newly met friends to pass the time when your not working on your recovery. ART also offers 3 sober living houses for your transition back in to the world, witch I strongly recommend. This also took a lot of stress off me while I was their because I did not need to to be seeking a transition/sober home else where. Do not get fooled by flashy advertisements of other treatments centers. ART cares and works, they have helped me in ways that I could have never imagined and I am so great full to be sober and living in one of their sober houses today. Thank you for saving my life!!!”

ART has had a huge positive impact on our entire family

“ART enabled our family member to successfully break the cycle of addiction and transition successfully to an ART sober living house.  The professional team at ART managed the medically supervised detox needed for our family member to begin to turn their life around.  The program continued not just with addiction training but provided valuable life skills and a strong sense of community.  The respectful, structured environment enabled our family member to come to terms with their addiction and embrace a way forward. ART also provides an outstanding family support program that includes both structured lessons and an interactive component that encourages sharing of ideas and strategies amongst the participants. ART has had a huge positive impact on our entire family.”

3. Comprehensive Treatment Clinic

(647) 490-4008

Tue, Fri: 9 AM – 5 PM

Wednesday: 12 PM – 7 PM

Thursday: 11 AM – 5 PM

Comprehensive Treatment Clinic (CTC) provides a surprising range of services, from addiction treatment to primary care, all under one roof.  They take a holistic approach to recovery, which means they look beyond addiction and focus on your overall well-being.

We learned about their belief in using medication responsibly, using the lowest dose possible for the shortest time needed. And their doctors create personalized plans with therapy sessions, addiction counseling, and creative art therapy.

Another interesting perk they offer is a stock of safer drug-using supplies, focused on harm reduction. This might not be for everyone, but it shows a commitment to client safety.

The downside is there have been reports of programs being slow and disorganized. This could be frustrating, especially when you’re looking for immediate support.

Genuinely happy being sober for the first time in over 10 years

“After a terrible experience with another clinic, and deciding they were absolutely useless, an incidental meeting with Dr Sam Merrifeld led me here. I saw Dr Bienenstock who was incredibly compassionate and understanding; now I’ve nearly completed treatment, and am genuinely happy being sober for the first time in over 10 years.

Would highly recommend to anyone, especially those who are dismissed or disparaged by other clinics.”

MOST impressed by this community based health care centre

“I was a walk in, interested in a quote on removal of a keloid scar. The receptionist was extremely kind, helpful & was able to fit me in! Dr. B. was MOST wonderful! He explained everything to me; took the time to make me feel extremely comfortable & informed. He gave me the best princig for removal that I have been given.

I am MOST impressed by this community based health care centre that offers a variety of important services for people.”

(416) 847-6441

OPERATING HOURSMon - Sun: Open 24 hours

Renascent Madison Avenue Centre has been around for decades, helping over 50,000 people overcome addiction.

They offer a big perk—affordability! They have payment options, publicly funded programs, and never turn someone away due to finances, which for us is a huge plus.

Their treatment approach is comprehensive, with both inpatient and virtual options.

And their in-house facilities are designed to feel like homes, not hospitals, which can be comforting during recovery.

We learned that they focus on your physical well-being with regular meals and a healthy sleep schedule. They also take a well-rounded approach to therapy, combining the traditional 12-step program with evidence-based therapies like CBT and mindfulness.

Here’s the catch: there have been reports of some counselors being rude. This is a big deal when you’re seeking support.

Saturday: 9 AM – 12 PM

Queen Street Treatment Clinic is part of the Canadian Addiction Treatment Centres. CATC is the largest provider in Canada, with over 80 locations offering outpatient and inpatient care, meaning there’s a good chance they have a facility close by.

We appreciate their comprehensive approach to treatment. Going beyond just addiction, they provide methadone/suboxone programs, but also basic healthcare, mental health support, and even help with Hepatitis C and HIV.

They also seem very accessible, with same-day intakes and centers open 24/7/365. No matter when you’re ready to take the first step, they’re there.

Their team includes doctors, nurses, counselors, and specialists—a well-rounded crew to support your recovery. And they offer a wide range of additional services like aftercare, therapy, and even peer support groups.

Sadly, there have been reports of staff being unresponsive to messages.

Best clinic in the city!

“Best clinic in the city! Staff are always kind and patient and most importantly treat you with respect and do their best to accommodate you on any given day. Overall just a great atmosphere! And the doctor seems to genuinely care instead of treating you as a number as I felt at other clinics.”

I love this clinic so much

“I love this clinic so much. Fred Crouzat is definitely one of the top doctors working for OATC and the staff is so kind. I’ve been to many OATC throughout the years and these guys are top tier.”
