Recently, I had a swanky work event coming up, but my wallet was feeling a bit light. So, I did what any savvy local would do—I hit up my crew for their go-to dress rental spots in Toronto.
Luckily, their recommendations were nothing short of fabulous! Decked out in a killer ensemble that didn’t break the bank, I felt like a million bucks at the event.
Because sharing is caring, here’s the lowdown on the best dress rental shops in our beloved city. Just doing my part to make sure everyone shines bright like a diamond, without emptying their pockets!
How much does dress rental cost in Toronto?
You can expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $300 or more for a dress rental in Toronto, with some high-end designer dresses costing more.
Some rental shops may offer package deals or discounts for longer rental periods or multiple items rented at once. Several factors, including the designer, style, and duration of the rental, may affect the cost.
How We Chose the Best Dress Rentals of Locals in Toronto
1. The Fitzroy
If you need to turn up the fancy for a special occasion, then check out The Fitzroy. Since 2016, they’ve been a go-to of locals for renting dream designer dresses, jumpsuits, suits, and accessories.
What’s cool is they’ve got sizes 0 to 20 in stock.
When we visited them, we went right in since no appointments were necessary! We were able to try on several outfits, guided by their knowledgeable stylists.
If you’re not in Toronto, we suggest going for their free virtual fitting via FaceTime or Zoom.
Planning a group shindig? Bring the squad along for a fitting session in their Toronto studio, accommodating groups of up to 10.
And don’t forget the accessories—we saw some of their awesome glam bags, luxe coats, and even fanciful fascinators!
The only hiccup we heard about is that some customers had a bit of trouble getting through to them with queries.
Pros
- Over 8 years of experience
- Sizes 0 to 20 in stock
- No appointments necessary
- Free virtual fitting
- Group fitting sessions
- Accessories available
Cons
- Lack of responsiveness
5 people said they loved the dress I was wearing
“I love Fitzroy dress rental! I am 63 and it is so fun to go to their huge Toronto store and find the perfect dress for any occasion. Recently, I wore a beautiful Australian designers cocktail dress to see Andrea Bocelli in concert. I had 5 different people express to me that they just loved the dress I was wearing. Fitzroy gives you a chance to try a different look without purchasing. My twin daughters and I are definitely renting for an upcoming country wedding shower this spring. We are very excited about the whole process. Make a day of it….take your time because there are so many gorgeous clothes. Have fun at Fitzroy!!”

2. MyEthnicRentals
For those looking to rent stunning South Asian attire, MyEthnicRentals (MER) is a must-try. Founded by Taru, who’s all about honoring her Indian heritage, MER brings traditional outfits to Canada with a sustainable twist.
We appreciate their collection which caters to men, women, and even the little ones. They also have accessories like ornate jewelry and juttis (North Indian footwear) to complete your look.
Happily, we were able to easily book an appointment online. When we got there, Taru went above and beyond to help us find the perfect ensemble; plus, trying on different lehengas—traditional Indian skirts—was a blast!
Delivery was quick, and they’re super flexible with return times. They even offer rental insurance, covering minor wear and tear.
Now, it’s worth noting that MER caters to a niche market, specializing in South Asian attire. But if that’s what you’re after, we think you won’t find a better option in Canada.
