Uncover the Best Trendy Lounges in Toronto for a Chic Night Out

top-trendy-lounges-toronto
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

I’m mostly known as the Toronto foodie (and tech) guy, always on the hunt for the next delicious adventure. But hey, even foodies need a break from risotto and burritos sometimes, right?

So, when my latest assignment landed—uncovering Toronto’s hottest new lounges—I happily traded in my food goggles for some cocktail swagger!

I did some serious online recon, grilled my friends for insider tips, and then, the real fun began. Hitting the scene myself, I narrowed down the list to the absolute creme de la creme.

So, heads up as I’m about to spill the tea (or should I say the martini?) on the top trendy lounges for a chic night out you won’t forget!

Fox on John

Address: 106 John St #3

Hours: Mon – Sun: 9 AM – 2 AM

Contact: (647) 748-0369

Fox on John—a modern British resto-bar-lounge—goes from casual brunch to late-night hangout seamlessly. Whether you’re on a date, catching a game on their screens, enjoying laid-back tunes, or dancing the night away, it definitely ticks all the boxes!

This place has a seriously cool vibe—exposed brick, comfy seating, and warm lighting—perfect for a casual dinner or catching up with friends. They’ve even got a heated outdoor patio with CN Tower views; hello, Instagrammable moment!

But what we love here is the transformation that happens after 9 PM. Fox on John turns into a full-blown nightlife destination with live DJs and drinks starting at around $6 (score!).

Speaking of drinks, we recommend going for their cappuccinos and mimosas (bottomless mimosas, anyone?!). And their pomegranate bruschetta and tacos are all delicious and pair well with their drinks!

Insomnia Restaurant and Lounge

Address: 563 Bloor St W

Hours: Mon – Sun: 10 AM – 2 AM

Nestled in Toronto’s Annex neighborhood, Insomnia Restaurant & Lounge has become everyone’s favorite go-to for amazing food and friendly service. They’re all about bringing delicious comfort food from around the world, together with a fun, lively vibe.

Their brunch is legendary for a reason—they even won “Best Brunch” in Now Magazine’s Reader’s Choice awards! Start your day with a strong cup of their signature coffee, or maybe a fun brunch cocktail (hey, nobody’s judging!).

Insomnia’s dinner menu is just as awesome, with a huge variety of dishes to choose from; vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free folks—there’s something for everyone!  We recommend the chicken linguine, it’s pure comfort food heaven.

And the best part is that the kitchen is open until 2 AM daily, so next time you get those late-night cravings, you know exactly where to go! No wonder they also won Now Magazine’s “Best Late-Night Restaurant” award.

Bar+ Karaoke Lounge

Address: 360 Yonge St

Hours:

  • Tue – Thurs, Sun: 5 PM – 2 AM
  • Fri – Sat: 3 PM – 2 AM

Toronto has a ton of karaoke lounge spots, but sometimes you want to belt out your best (or worst) in a private space. That’s where Bar + Karaoke comes in—a hidden gem on Yonge and Gerrard offering clean, modern karaoke rooms that won’t break the bank.

We love their private rooms, comfy couches, and big screens. The rates are super reasonable, and as a bonus, you can bring your own snacks—no need to overpay for bar food.

Speaking of bar food, we ordered cajun fries, and they were the perfect pre-singing fuel (seriously, those fries were amazing!). The drinks at Bar + Karaoke are good too, so you can still grab a cocktail or beer to complete the experience.

They’ve got a huge selection of English music, plus tons of Japanese and Korean hits. They even have super easy-to-use tablets to queue up your songs—no confusing songbooks or fighting over the remote!

The Reservoir Lounge

Address: 52 Wellington St E

Hours: Wed – Sun: 7:30 PM – 2 AM

Contact: (416) 955-0887

The Reservoir Lounge is a hip go-to spot that’s been a local favorite for ages. Its vibe is a modern-day speakeasy: intimate basement setting, live jazz music six nights a week, and enough history to fill a museum (Prince himself used to sip Chablis there!).

They have a different live band every night, playing everything from classic Dixieland to toe-tapping swing. It’s no surprise they were the epicenter of Toronto’s swing dance craze—the atmosphere here just begs you to move!

They also have a killer food and drink menu. We tried their chicken skewers, a flatbread pizza, and their life-changing strawberry coconut martini (probably the best martini I’ve ever had).

Everything is made with fresh ingredients, and the portions are perfect for sharing with friends. Speaking of friends, if you’re bringing a crew of 5 or more, they might need a credit card to secure your spot.

Toronto has a ton of rooftop bars, but sometimes you want one with a touch of class (and killer views!)—that’s where Writers Room Bar comes in. Perched on the 18th floor of the Park Hyatt Hotel, it’s basically a swanky lounge in the sky.

Imagine plush leather and suede seating, handcrafted cocktails that’ll knock your socks off, and a panoramic view of the Toronto skyline that goes on forever. Seriously, this place, which has 50 years of history, is Instagram gold!

The view isn’t the only star here, though—they also have a fantastic selection of martinis. But it’s more on the upscale side, so dress to impress (no ripped jeans here!).

Good news! You don’t need to be old to enjoy the view—Writers Room Bar welcomes guests 19 and over.

Looking for a swanky Toronto lounge that’s both luxurious and surprisingly chill? Clockwork Champagne & Cocktails might be your new happy hour haven.

Tucked inside the Fairmont Royal York, this spot feels like a classy train car reimagined for the modern age. That means comfy corners, a giant celestial clock, and a definite “see and be seen” vibe.

But Clockwork isn’t just about aesthetics. Their cocktail menu is award-winning, with their Pride Cocktail—Fresa y Coco—donating $1 per drink to a local LGBTQ+ charity.

Plus, the food hits the spot—fresh East Coast oysters, Fogo Island Shrimp, and a juicy Clockwork Burger are just a few highlights; vegetarian dishes are available, too. Basically, they offer simple yet addicting fare.

Canvas Art Bar

Address: 80 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga

Hours:

Canvas Art Bar is a Toronto nightlife spot that’s equal parts trendy and artistic. This upscale cocktail bar and lounge is basically an explosion of creativity—walls adorned with art and a calendar packed with fun events.

Let’s talk about drinks first—their cocktails are seriously good. We tried the Passion Pop with its mango and pineapple rum, and the Guava-Mente with its refreshing mix of tequila and guava nectar (both were amazing!).

As for yummy bites, they have tapas to keep you fueled for a night of dancing or checking out the local art scene.

Now, for the social butterflies out there, they have various events, from mixology and paint nights on Tuesdays to live DJs and entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays.  They even have comedy nights and bachata lessons for those who like to mix it up!

Char No.5 is a lovely lounge tucked away in the Delta Hotel with a full-on 1920s speakeasy vibe. Smooth jazz, swanky R&B, and dim lighting make it the perfect spot for a fancy night out.

The cocktails take center stage here—they specialize in Canadian whisky, with over 200 different brands to choose from.  But even if you’re not a whisky aficionado, they have a killer selection of classic cocktails with a modern twist.

We tried the Old Fashioned made with their own homemade bitters, and it was fantastic. However, be prepared to wait a bit—each drink is a work of art!

For food, they have some delicious bar bites like pulled chicken poutine and BBQ roasted cauliflower (vegan options too!).  Apparently, they have everything you need to soak up those expertly crafted cocktails.

C Suite

  • Thursday: 5 PM – 1 AM

C Suite is gorgeous, styled after a 1920s-era cocktail train car. Conveniently located steps from Bay subway station, this place offers a unique cocktail experience, whether you’re seated at the bar or lounging in one of their plush, blue velvet bucket chairs.

Barman Albert Han and his apprentice Fei are masters of their craft, creating cocktails tailored exactly to your tastes—trust me, it’ll be the best hour of your day.

If you prefer the lounge, you can savor their signature cocktails or taste some fine whiskies. You can also enjoy a glass of wine expertly paired with culinary delights prepared by some of Toronto’s finest chefs.

Make sure to reserve your seating and arrive on time for a seamless experience. They do offer a 15-minute grace period for delays, but after that, it’s considered a no-show.
