Sure, Toronto is known for its parties and nightlife. But when I actually need to get work done, I’ve learned that this city has some amazing study spots too.
From cozy cafes that never rush you out to quiet corners with reliable WiFi, I’ve tried and tested places that make studying way less painful. These spots are favorites among local students, and they’re perfect when you need to focus.
Excited to crack some book spines? Here are the top study places in Toronto that’ll help you get those straight As (or Bs are fine, too!).

Toronto Reference Library is a massive five-floor building—a dream spot if you’re looking for serious study time. It’s actually one of the biggest in the city, which means you’ll never struggle to find a table, a chair, or an outlet.
Despite being huge, it’s designed with tons of little nooks and corners where you can tuck yourself away and focus.
Even in the dead of winter, the building feels bright and energizing thanks to its huge central skylight that lets in natural sunshine. Instead of feeling like you’re buried in a dark study cave, you get an airy, open atmosphere.
And when the caffeine cravings kick in, you don’t even need to pack up your stuff. There’s a cozy cafe on site where you can grab a latte or snack before heading back to your seat.
Pro Tip:
Go up to the higher floors if you’re craving extra quiet. The lower levels can get busier, but the top floors are usually calmer, with more private corners to really focus.
Robarts Library

Hours:

Saturday: 9 AM – 10 PM
Sunday: 10 AM – 10 PM

Robarts Library is one of TO’s most iconic study spots and easily the most impressive. Officially called the John P. Robarts Research Library, it houses the largest single collection in the University of Toronto system.
One of its biggest highlights is the Robarts Common, a newer five-storey wing attached to the main building. It offers over 1,200 study spots, from cozy individual seats to group tables designed for solo, duo, or group projects.
The upper floors of the main library also have quiet learning corners. My favorites are the cubicles on the 10th floor—they’re free and perfect for distraction-free studying.
Note that each floor from 2 to 5 has bookable study rooms that fit 3 to 10 people. Plus, they’re equipped with power outlets, charging ports, TVs, HDMI ports, and USB ports.
Pro Tip:
Feel free to bring your laptop or tablet to Robarts. There are plenty of power outlets near cubbies and study nooks, so you won’t be stuck hunting for a plug.

While Robarts often steals the spotlight as U of T’s go-to study hub, the Gerstein Science Information Centre is a close second. Tucked into King’s College Circle at the St. George campus, this library feels a little more hidden away.
Inside, you’ll find cushy armchairs, grand wooden tables, and plenty of light streaming in. It’s definitely not as busy as other libraries on campus.
In terms of resources, it houses a print collection of about 500,000 books, over 1,200 journal subscriptions, and more than 100,000 online journals and books.
One spot you need to check out is the Gerstein Reading Room. Recently restored to its original design, it’s spacious, tasteful, and crowned with a stunning ceiling.
Pro Tip:
If you have a study group, book one of Gerstein’s 19 study rooms (minimum of two students). Each room can be reserved for up to three hours per week, and you can book up to two weeks in advance.

Since 2014, Boxcar Social has been a staple of the neighborhood. This two-storey Victorian home turned rustic-chic cafe is also a bar, and a study haven.
Downstairs, the main bar carries a slight buzz, while upstairs, the cafe offers a much quieter vibe—great for hiding away in your laptop. And when the weather’s good, they have a lovely back patio, where you can swap your notes for a beer after studying.
We love that they have free WiFI, comfy seating, and plenty of outlets. It’s also spacious enough to handle both solo work and group meetups.
And if you need a little boost, their drink menu is stacked with choices like espresso, cappuccino, lattes, and craft brews.
Pro Tip:
If you’re planning a group study sesh at Boxcar Social (six or more), make a reservation in advance. They accept group bookings from Tuesday to Saturday after 4 PM—simply shoot an email to [email protected].

If you’re hunting for a stylish study spot in Toronto, The Lobby at Ace Hotel is a must-try. It’s modern and cute, plus the staff are very welcoming, so don’t be shy to crack those notes or bust that laptop!
It doubles as a cafe, which is a huge perk. You get free WiFi, access to great coffee to keep you going, and cocktails or wine if you’re winding down later on.
Seating is another win here, since there’s plenty of room to choose from. You can park at one of their comfy couches tucked in the back, or your group can snag a classic table for enough space to spread out your notes.
Outlets are conveniently placed around the space, too, so you won’t have to stress about your gadgets running out of juice mid-study.
Pro Tip:
Can’t concentrate if there’s a mild buzz? Try visiting in the late morning or early afternoon for the best chance at a quieter atmosphere (and to snag better seats).
Coffee Lunar

Address: 920 Yonge St #6
Hours: Mon – Sun: 8 AM – 5 PM

Tucked into the Rosedale neighborhood, Coffee Lunar was literally designed with students in mind. It’s located near two language schools, so the owners wanted it to become the ultimate study space—and it certainly delivers.
I really love its intentionally serene and minimalist vibe, with clean lines, cozy lighting, neutral colors, and plenty of outlets, no matter where you sit. Unlike busier cafes, it has a quieter atmosphere that makes it easy to concentrate without distraction.
For groups or long-haul sessions, their housemade Cold Brew Concentrate is definitely a genius move. This 16-oz bottle makes up to seven cups of coffee—perfect for that extra caffeine boost.
And for the snackers in the bunch, they stock a small but mighty selection of baked goods from a local baker, including unique finds like a Corn Cheese Scone.
Pro Tip:
Treat yourself to Coffee Lunar‘s famous Cream Drop if you feel like you deserve something indulgent. It’s made with double espresso, brown sugar syrup, half-and-half, and whipped cream, all poured over ice.

Industrious is a modern coworking space that’s perfect for students or freelancers who want a professional, distraction-free environment.
The amenities are amazing—you’d get 24/7 access, fast WiFi, and fully stocked office supplies. Snacks, drinks, and daily breakfast with craft coffee are included, which makes those long study sessions feel less like a grind.
My favorite location is the one at Adelaide St in the Financial District, which is easy to reach by TTC, bike, or car. The three-storey building itself is a beauty, with blue-tinted windows, a central courtyard, and security round the clock.
On top of that, you’ll even get complimentary hours in private meeting rooms (thesis defense practice, anyone?), and dedicated on-site support staff.
Pro Tip:
Take advantage of Industrious’ flexible access to over 200 locations. If you’re traveling or just want a new place to study every week, your membership works across cities.

Cafe 23 is a cozy, Parisian-style cafe that makes studying feel like you’re an exchange student in Europe.
Owner Jessica Sansonetti’s background in architecture and her love of plants show up everywhere in the cafe’s charming decor. The space feels curated and comfortable with little design touches that will enchant you.
What they’re really famous for is their secret backyard patio. With overhanging trees, string lights, and a wall of ivy cascading down, it’s easily one of the cutest spots in the city—you won’t be bored studying here, I promise!
Now, if you’re planning a long study session, you won’t go hungry because they have loads of delicious options. You can nibble on amazing pastries sourced from local bakeries, including classic French favorites that pair perfectly with their espresso drinks.
Pro Tip:
If you want more privacy, there’s a smaller patio in Cafe 23. It’s located upstairs on a charming wooden deck, providing the perfect escape during warm mornings and sunny afternoons.

Hours: Mon – Sun: 8 AM – 8 PM

Carbonic Coffee may be small, but it packs a punch when it comes to being a perfect study nook in Toronto. Run by Huang, head roaster at Hale Coffee, this space definitely offers top-tier coffee.
Most of the regulars here are students from nearby U of T and OCADU. That means the vibe is naturally focused and calm, with lots of people typing away or reviewing notes while sipping from a mug.
It’s also beautifully designed. The seating and curved walls give it a Scandi feel, but it also leans towards Japanese minimalism with wood accents and a stone path.
Pro Tip:
Carbonic Coffee is known for its Hojicha Latte with Oat Milk—it’s smooth, nutty, and slightly smoky. Trust me, it’s the kind of drink that keeps you chugging through even the toughest assignments.

Hours:

Dineen Coffee Co. is a hub for students, commuters, and business travellers alike—everyone’s tucked into their laptops, fuelled by great coffee and flaky pastries.
Their selection of brewed javas often leans medium-dark—perfect for those who love a bolder flavor profile. I recommend pairing a cup with their very flaky Swiss pastry.
As for the space itself, the interior design is half the charm here—it has hand-painted tile, custom marble counters, and fancy chandeliers hanging overhead. Add in a soaring ceiling and streams of natural light, and your study session just got a lot more bearable.
If the weather’s cooperating, grab a seat on their patio for a change of scenery.
Pro Tip:
Dineen can get busy, especially at peak times, so aim to come earlier in the morning or midafternoon if you want the best seat by the windows. Bonus—the natural light works wonders for both focus and mood.

Bloom Cafe is a Japanese bakery-turned-cafe that’s tucked downtown. I just love its modern and clean interior, giving it a calming vibe that’s definitely study-friendly.
If you’re studying with a group, make sure to grab half a dozen of their famous cream puffs. Made fresh in-house, these fluffy delights come with fillings like strawberry, Earl Grey, mocha, matcha, Oreo, and vanilla.
To balance out all that sugar, they also make a mean cappuccino using beans from Library Specialty Coffee. It’s rich, smooth, and the perfect caffeine boost.
If coffee isn’t your thing, they also offer a wide range of premium teas, such as ceremonial matcha, hojicha, jasmine, or genmaicha.
Pro Tip:
For a calmer vibe, visit Bloom Cafe earlier in the day. It’s quieter in the mornings, giving you prime seating and a peaceful space to sip your coffee and focus.
Page One Cafe

Hours:
Mon – Fri: 8:30 AM – 5 PM
Sat – Sun: 10 AM – 4:30 PM

If you’re anywhere near Toronto Metropolitan University, Page One Cafe is practically a rite of passage for students. This hybrid cafe and cocktail bar on Mutual St offers reliable WiFi, various outlets, and plenty of seating.
I just adore its library-style seating with rows of typewriters on shelves, a quirky detail courtesy of Toronto Typewriters. It has a moody, academic vibe that makes you feel productive just by sitting down (I swear!).
During the day, baristas serve up specialty coffee and organic teas from Vancouver’s Tea Guy. But if you’re not a caffeine fan, you can just easily sip a soothing herbal blend.
Food is another big draw here. From their famous avocado toast (my favorite) to artisan pizzas, there’s plenty to keep you fueled through long study sessions.
Pro Tip:
You deserve a reward after all that studying (or after passing that paper!), so stay until the evening, when this spot shifts into bar mode with craft beer, cocktails, and whisky.
