We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

My coworker’s daughter was itching to try a new sport but couldn’t quite decide. Since my cousin’s been loving his Jiu-Jitsu classes, I suggested they check it out.

Jackpot! She absolutely loved it—she’s already mastering new moves and can’t stop talking about her next class. My coworker even noticed she’s become more focused and confident at home and school.

Hearing this was such great news that I had to share it. So, if you’re looking for the best Jiu-Jitsu classes in Toronto, here’s where to start your journey!

How much do Jiu-Jitsu classes cost in Toronto?

Jiu-Jitsu class prices in Toronto vary depending on the gym and membership options. Monthly memberships typically range from $150 to $250, with some gyms offering discounts for long-term commitments or family plans.
Drop-in classes are usually priced around $25 to $40 per session. Private lessons and specialty programs like kids’ or women-only classes may have different rates.
Don’t forget to take advantage of free trial periods or introductory packages.

One of those jiu-jitsu studios that live up to social media

“This is one of those jiu-jitsu studios that lives up to social media. When you enter through the store front, you are welcomed in and directed to the gym. The gym itself is clean, vibrant, and spacious, with available change rooms, showers, and seating. The staff and students are friendly and helpful with any questions you have, and when rolling, give you some competitive rounds on the mats. Can’t wait to go back and drop in on some classes.”

“Greenwood Jiu Jitsu is home. I’ve been coming here for close to two years and have loved every minute of it. Not only are there great people to train with, but every single class is taught by a world class black belt. If you’re even remotely interested, drop what you’re doing and head to Greenwood Jiu Jitsu.”

Pretty much been my second home for the last 3 + years

“Greenwood Jiu Jitsu has pretty much been my second home for the last 3 + years. Chris is an excellent instructor that focuses on teaching high percentage techniques that work well in live, high pressure situations. The atmosphere of the gym is positive and unpretentious. The training partners here are helpful and supportive, whether you are a beginner or you are at a more advanced level. Don’t expect easy promotions here; stripes and belts are only earned by hard work and persistence, as they should be. Overall, a great place to train and call home.”

Gracie Barra is one of the most recognized names in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu worldwide. With over 700 schools globally, students gain access to a vast network of training facilities, gear, and online resources, which we think is pretty cool.

The Gracie Barra Kids Program focuses on teaching self-discipline while giving children a unique way to express themselves through martial arts.

Adults can train based on their skill level. Programs include Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals, which introduces the basics, Advanced Jiu-Jitsu, and Expert Jiu-Jitsu.

Now, for those seeking fitness rather than combat training, the BarraFIT program offers a Jiu-Jitsu-inspired workout that promotes weight loss.

While the quality of instruction and facilities is often praised, some students have mentioned that the culture can feel “clique-y” at times. To check if this is true, feel free to sign up for their complimentary trial class.

Best place to learn jiu-jitsu and make new friends

“Best place to learn jiu jitsu and make new friends. Professor Alexandre is extremely passionate about the art of jiu jitsu, and is a master at teaching it! He cares for all of his students as a family, on and off the mats. The other instructors are also very skilled and great teachers, and the facility is always super clean. The students there are very friendly, and everyone is always helping each other grow.”

Sunday: 12 PM – 5 PM

The Toronto Jiu-Jitsu Club was started by Team Canada members and international champions. It’s led by Michael Sheehan, a Canadian BJJ athlete with over a decade of experience training and competing internationally.

Specialized programs are available, such as Women’s-only Jiu-Jitsu classes, which provide a supportive environment to train and grow in the sport.

Kids’ programs are divided into age groups, while teen and adult classes offer a mix of technique and sparring to help participants reach their potential.

The stories of members shedding 50 pounds or becoming national champions are proof that they’re results-driven.

We also like their free 7-day trial, which is a great way to experience their classes and see if it’s the right fit.

However, we heard about people being charged for unwanted memberships, so it’s a good idea to confirm all terms and conditions before signing up.

Pros

  • Led by Michael Sheehan
  • Women’s-only Jiu-Jitsu classes
  • Kids, teens, and adult classes
  • Free 7-day trial

Cons

  • Some were charged for unwanted memberships

Excellent BJJ school in Toronto

“An excellent BJJ school in Toronto and one of the best gyms I’ve been to over my years of on-and-off training. I signed up right after my trial. Head instructor, Mike Sheehan, is an accomplished and active competitor and, more importantly, he has a real knack for teaching. While even the most experienced athletes will get a ton out of Mike’s instruction (and the overall training environment at TJJC), this is also a great place for beginners. Jiu-jitsu is a challenging sport, especially at the beginning; this school strikes a good balance of making BJJ safe and accessible to new students, and providing the environment for them to challenge themselves and excel.”

From kids to adults, I highly recommend their facility, for the attention, cleanliness and atmosphere of their space. Thank you Mike and Vicky for their hard work put in to offer the best training possible for their student 🤙🏾”

Hands down the best BJJ gym in the city

“Grapple Lab is hands down the best BJJ gym in the city. If you are an absolute beginner, an experienced hobbyist, or an active competitor, you will enjoy training at this gym. Professors Matt and Mani are easily approachable and they have a deep knowledge of BJJ that they want to share with their students. The classes at GL are super fun but also physically challenging and mind-expanding. I cannot recommend this place enough!”
