Halloween is just around the corner, and my friend and I were on the hunt for that perfect, show-stopping outfit. But all we kept finding were the usual suspects—witch costumes, catsuits, and superhero getups.
Where were the funky 70s disco outfits, medieval knights, or even a T-Rex costume to really stand out?
Luckily, we had some time to spare and decided to do a little digging. After asking around and scouring the city, we discovered some of the best costume rental shops in Toronto.
So, if you’re planning to attend a Halloween bash, a themed party, or even a cosplay event, these spots have got you covered. Their unique, creative costumes will turn heads and make you the star of the night!
How much do costume rentals cost in Toronto?
Costume rentals in Toronto typically range from $30 to $150, depending on the complexity and style of the costume.
Simple outfits like classic Halloween costumes may be on the lower end, while elaborate, themed costumes or period pieces can be more expensive. Some shops also offer packages or discounts for multi-day rentals or group bookings.
How We Chose the Best Costume Rental Shops in Toronto
1. Fantastic Creations
Fantastic Creations, founded in 1988, is known for costume rentals and realistic props. Originally sparked by Chris’s love for building stage-worthy props and cool weapons, the company now serves the film, TV, theater, and photography industries.
Their costume rentals are especially impressive, including military, police, astronaut, and sci-fi outfits. They even have armor ranging from Roman and Medieval times to futuristic styles.
And if you want to take things up a notch, you can rent their custom props, too. They’ve created everything from full-sized coffins and glowing pod babies to Egyptian jewelry and high-tech sci-fi weapons.
We like that you can email them if you’re looking for something specific—they’re happy to help! As a bonus, they’ll build stuff for you—their custom props are a huge hit for movies, cosplay, and more.
While their services can be a bit pricey, we believe the quality and creativity they offer are well worth it.
Real-world wonderland of costumes and props
“I had heard good things about Chris and his work, so I retained him and his team to create some objects for me last year. I was very happy with the finished product – exactly what I wanted – and Chris’ professionalism in advising me about materials was helpful. The workshop at Fantastic Creations is a real-world wonderland of costumes and props and even a simple walk through is an incredible experience. After my business visit, I asked if he could give my son a tour and he agreed. We spent A LOT of time in the medieval armory. What a great guy and a great organization.”

Extensive stocks of props and costumes
“I have worked with Chris Warrilow many times over the years and found that not only does he have extensive and comprehensive stocks of props and costumes, he can improvise brilliantly to get you the look you need or the people to build it. Fantastic Creations is truly your place to get the best.”

2. Woodbridge Costumes
Woodbridge Costume Collection has been curating high-quality costumes for nearly three decades, offering an impressive range of rental options for any occasion.
Their collection includes garments from ancient and medieval times, the Renaissance, the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as a large selection of decade-specific costumes. They also feature TV and movie outfits, uniforms, and international wear.
Their services are available year-round, and they cater to individuals, small businesses, and nonprofits alike.
For those working in TV, film, or professional theater, they provide weekly and production rentals. They even offer discounted rates for schools and non-profit organizations, making their services accessible to a variety of clients.
Sadly, we heard reports of unhelpful staff, which can be a downside when you’re trying to find the perfect costume.
Amazing selection of costumes to choose from!
“I highly recommend this store. Fabulous showroom with change rooms and an amazing selection of costumes to choose from! I rented a costume for a Disco party and the staff was very helpful in finding me the perfect outfit that suited me for the occasion. Pickup and return was simple. They even do alterations in house. I’ll definitely be back!”

The selection was awesome, the quality was unreal
“Had a gig within a week, had searched all over the place for a 70’s disco costume. Friend told me about Woodbridge Costumes in Woodbridge. Sent an email to request some help. Maria answered in a very short time, we chatted, and she gave me an appointment to see her outfits and a fitting. I don’t remember anything going so smoothly as it was deal with her. The selection was awesome, the quality is unreal, and when things get back to normal, they have a seamstress on premise. My bandmates and I will be back, we no longer need to find a costume place. Woodbridge Costumes is our place to shop for all of our outfits. I cannot say enough of the customer service we received and the selection and sizes.”

3. Thunder Thighs Costumes LTD
Thunder Thighs Costumes has been around since 1978 when wardrobe designer Lynda Kemp turned her passion into a business. What started with a single rack of movie clothes has grown into a go-to spot for film professionals and everyday people.
Impressively, her company has worked on numerous films like Police Academy, Suicide Squad, It, The Shape of Water, and lots more.
It’s no wonder the selection here is incredible. They offer everything from police and military uniforms to flashy performer outfits like Elvis or Liberace.
History buffs will love their period pieces, covering styles from the 1750s all the way to today. These include stunning British-era dresses from Stuart, Georgian, Regency, Victorian, and Edwardian times.
They’ve even added glamorous showgirl costumes full of feathers, beads, and sequins!
The only downside is that a $500 security deposit is required if your rental exceeds $100. But, given the quality and rarity of their pieces, it’s understandable.
This place is absolutely magical
“This place is absolutely magical, it brings me back to my early childhood with all of the wonderful costumes on display. If you have a costume party to attend, go to thunder thighs costumes for some funky, cool, and exciting looks! They have all types of costumes from movie set to children’s parties.”

4. The Fitzroy
The Fitzroy was founded in 2016 by two best friends who met in Kindergarten. They saw a gap in the market and have now grown it into Canada’s leading rental service.
They have costumes for a Disco Party, a Gatsby bash, and even Eras Tour pieces for Swifties. They also have movie-inspired looks like Barbiecore and James Bond, along with period pieces—from Bridgerton Regency styles to 70s, 80s, and 90s vibes.
If you’re in the area, you can pop in for a walk-in fitting any day of the week. But even if you’re far away, they’ve got you covered with virtual fittings via FaceTime or Zoom.
You can easily browse and rent pieces online as well, and they offer two-way shipping across Canada. As a cherry on top, their affordable $6 rental insurance is a lifesaver.
The only downside is that some of their attendants might be a bit unhelpful.
Had an amazing experience with Fitzroy rentals
“I had an amazing experience with Fitzroy rentals. Everything was seamless, they have an amazing selection of dresses, and the staff are absolutely wonderful. I tried on a variety of dresses and this one was the favourite for my bridal shower. I am normally a size 4 or 6, but this dress fit as a size 0. I strongly suggest going in person to try on the dresses, I was surprised by how each one fit differently. The retail space is beautiful and the changerooms are large, comfortable, and actually have flattering lighting! I will 100% rent from Fitzroy again, I am so happy this company exists.”

Love, love, love Fitzroy Rentals
“Love, love, love Fitzroy Rentals. Why buy a pricey dress that you may only wear once or twice which will sit in your closet when you can rent and look absolutely fantastic for a fraction of the price. Have used Fitzroy quite a few times and always super impressed with the selection and quality of their dresses and the whole rental process is super easy. Website is easy to navigate, their new space is as gorgeous as their dresses and staff are always super friendly and helpful. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 👏🏻”
