Easy going yet knowledgeable teacher
I took 12 singing lessons with Valerie. When I started I was embarrassed by my singing voice, but by the end I grew a lot more confident and I now enjoy singing around the house and while I play my guitar. 4. Vocal Studio
EXPERIENCE | ★★★★★ |
TECHNIQUES | ★★★★☆ |
CREDIBILITY | ★★★★☆ |
AFFORDABILITY | ★★★★☆ |
Since 2008, Vocal Studio has been helping singers build their voices through classes. They have 2 locations, one in Toronto, Canada, and one in San Diego, USA.
The vocal coach for their Toronto branch is Will Patterson. He has 10 years experience in the field and has been successful in helping students connect with their voices.
Vocal Studio made it to our list because of their proven expertise. Their system follows mainly three steps, which are explore, improve, and record.
Examples of the core areas they focus on are pitch, range, dynamic, tone, and performance. They highlight that improving one’s voice leads to a more developed creativity in connecting to and communicating with people.
The downside of this service is that it only has a classroom-setting. It does not mention one-on-one sessions, which can be a disadvantage.
Scheduling is quite simple as students usually come in during the afternoon or early evening. Once a student has a schedule, they make sure to follow that throughout the course, be it online or in-person.
We do note that Vocal Coach is closed during Wednesdays and Sundays. In our opinion, closing during a weekday can be quite the dealbreaker.
All said, there isn’t really much to dislike about Vocal Coach. Its goal to empower singers in connecting more with their voices and enhancing their creativity gives them a thumbs up.
Pros
- More than 10 years experience
- Offers classes via Skype
- Good for those who aim to record their singing
Cons
- Closed during Wednesdays and Sundays
- No private sessions
Customer Reviews
Great understanding of the human voice
Will Patterson is a fantastic teacher and voice coach. He has a great understanding of the human voice and is able to easily convey his ideas and instructions. Learning to sing is very abstract and you really have to rely on feeling and sensation. Will is able to get me to sing/speak in the proper place.
Eli is incredibly passionate about singing. He is funny, charismatic, and easy to work with. This truly is the very best place to take voice lessons. — John Force, via Google
Combines vocal coaching with professional recording techniques
It’s a dope facility at a dope location. Will Patterson has a surprisingly intimate understanding of the mechanics of the voice. Their training style is unlike any other vocal coach I’ve ever been to. It combines vocal coaching with professional recording techniques. It’s an invaluable experience for any artist starting out or working on their craft. — Aaron Williams, via Google
5. Ryan Luchuck Voice & Artist Development
EXPERIENCE | ★★★★★ |
TECHNIQUES | ★★★★☆ |
CREDIBILITY | ★★★★☆ |
AFFORDABILITY | ★★★★☆ |
Having “hitting the high notes since 2003” as their main tagline, it is pretty clear what Ryan Luchuck Voice and Artist Development can offer. They have ample experience in coaching students and artists on how they can improve their voice.
Ryan Luchuck is a recognized international teacher trainer. What makes him more impressive is that he has mentored other voice coaches and is endorsed by voice experts worldwide.
Ryan also works with several organizations such as SingPro and The Pan-American Vocology Association.
Booking a session with Ryan Luchuck Voice and Artist Development is quite easy. You can either call or sign up online for your first lesson, which is promised at a 50% less price.
It is also guaranteed that “if you don’t learn more in your first lesson (than any previous training), you don’t pay.” Students also have the option to book a session with Ryan in his home studio or via Skype.
The only inconvenient thing we see about Ryan Luchuck Voice and Artist Development is that schedules are inconsistent and often confusing. While students do book their sessions and slots, it is still better if there will be set times for classes.
As of writing, Ryan is teaching over 200 students. His mastery of vocals and power to motivate students to perform makes him one of the safest choices out there.
Pros
- Teaching students since 2003
- Internationally recognized voice instructor

Cons
- Inconsistent schedules

Has a strong music background that allows him to be able to pinpoint areas that need work and will give you tailor-made exercises to build your vocal range
I’ve been taking lessons from Ryan for just over a year now and I’m loving them! I look forward to the lessons every week! Ryan is patient and makes you feel so comfortable during the lessons. He has a strong music background that allows him to be able to pinpoint areas that need work and will give you tailor-made exercises to build your vocal range. I used to be so self-conscious about my voice and vocal range (or lack thereof, so I thought). Within the first few lessons, Ryan was already coaching me from where I was stuck in my chest voice to my head voice. I hope to continue taking lessons from Ryan and build on my vocal skills. If you’re looking for an amazing vocal teacher, look no further! — Laura Cohen, via Google
Best vocal coach and studio out there by far!
My daughter has been with Ryan since October and absolutely loves learning from him. We wish we would have found him years ago as her voice has improved immensely in this short time. He offers many opportunities outside of the studio for her to improve her voice and get comfortable on stage in front of an audience. He loves what he does and it really shows in how much of his free time he is willing to put in to help his students grow. Best vocal coach and studio out there by far! — Mark Adams, via Google
6. Canada Music Academy
EXPERIENCE | ★★★★★ |
TECHNIQUES | ★★★★☆ |
CREDIBILITY | ★★★★☆ |
AFFORDABILITY | ★★★★☆ |
Celebrating 25 years in the music industry, the Canada Music Academy is definitely one of the best choices for anything about music. They offer lessons for various instruments and a diverse set of voice lessons.
Given their expertise, the range that this academy offers in terms of vocals is really commendable. Students can choose from classical, jazz & blues, pop & rock, theater, gospel, percussion, or even beatboxing lessons.
They also have a team of certified teachers to assist students in harnessing their potential. Lessons are conducted through online live, in-home or private, or at the teacher’s studio.
Probably the best thing about this music school is that those who opt for an online live lesson get their first session for free. That makes a really good option for those who are still discerning or are just curious about what music sessions like this entail.
Of course, this school has its setbacks. The influx of students often affects bookings and schedules, as well as the availability of teachers.
The teachers also have various starting rates and you are free to choose whomever you please, as long as they are available for your chosen schedule. We also like how their prices are really affordable.
In conclusion, Canada Music Academy is perfect for those who are just getting started. They can teach the principles of whatever it is you want to learn without asking too much from your pocket.
