Chronic Ink Tattoo was founded in 2008 and has won over 90 awards since they started. They started inside the Pacific Mall in Markham and have since expanded outside of Ontario.

Once you’ve made your order, you’ll be asked to pay a certain deposit (costs depend on the design). After “claiming” a design, the shop will get in touch with you to confirm your appointment.

If none of their existing designs interest you, they can also make a custom tattoo for you. Just let them know more about the idea you have and they’ll work their magic on you.

Amazing tattoo artists

Had my first tattoo done at Chronic Ink yesterday-Selena is absolutely amazing! She was very caring, calming, and reassuring. I appreciate how patient she was with me! The entire staff at this location were all very nice as well. Will definitely go back for my next tattoo!- Jainee Marie

Clean and highly professional

Had my first session with Sarah for tattoo removal, I am extremely impressed. She walked me through the entire process, made me feel comfortable, and was highly professional the entire time. Although pretty painful, her keeping me calm and letting me know how far we were helped SO much. Now I know what to expect, and I can’t wait to finish!

OPERATING HOURSTuesday- Friday: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Saturday – Sunday: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

The story of Tattoo People dates back to its inception in Hongdae in Seoul, the artistic center of the capital city. Founded by Khan J, the shop opened its doors in Toronto in 2014.

Today, the shop is best known for masterpiece-worthy designs of various tattoos. This is the place you’ll go to if you want intricately-detailed Japanese tattoos or sophisticated finelines on your body.

Consultation in this shop is free, but you do need a $50-100 deposit if you wish to go ahead. Walk-ins are also entertained as long as the tattoo artist is available to accommodate you.

But, not all tattoo artists are open to accept walk-in clients. The best thing to do is to call them up and see if the artist you want is available.

In our opinion, this shop is best for people who are getting tattooed for the very first time. We found that their general consultation is very informative, with the artist explaining every step of the process.

On top of that, they also offer popular designs that help beginners pick easily. They can do  full-body, full-colored, full-arm, and head tattoos depending on the style you need.

Pros

  • Beginner-friendly process
  • Free general consultation
  • Walk-ins are entertained
  • Easy online appointment booking
  • Allows clients to speak to a specific tattoo artist
  • Many popular designs available
  • Relaxing music plays in the shop to put clients at ease

Cons

  • Issues with appointment dates being changed

Cares about what you want

Tattoo People is the best! I have had two tattoos done there now and I have loved working with them on both. They are extremely accommodating and care the most about you getting what you want. My artist, Jihan took way more time on my piece than initially proposed and was nothing but excited and happy for me. 10/10 will go back and also recommend!! – Mallory Mahoney

Beyond impressive service

Been to a number of tattoo shops in the city and I was beyond impressed with my consultation and first appointment at Tattoo People. Aside from Khan somehow psychically drawing my pet who passed away into my design, the professionalism, kindness, compassion, and friendliness of this studio can’t be understated. Amazing work, great people, spotless studio. I can’t wait to get this piece finished! –  Nicole W.

Having been in the business for 12 years, Black Line Studio has proven a lot in the tattoo industry. In fact, they’ve already served over 54,000 clients who can easily vouch for their talent.

One of the first things that stood out to us was the range of services they offer. Unlike cookie-cutter tattoo shops, this studio’s approach is a lot more distinct and definitely more innovative, in our opinion.

The studio performs custom tattoos for those who want a personalized design and tattoo cover-ups for those who want to remodel an old tattoo.

If you want to get a tattoo but are not willing to commit a lifetime to it yet, they also do airbrush tattoos. Speaking of commitments, if you want to break up with any of your current tattoos, they also have tattoo removal services.

Consultation with the shop is free plus you have the chance to speak to an artist of your choice.

On top of that, we also love that the shop is walk-in friendly. Not everyone has the luxury to schedule an appointment so it’s a definite plus in our books.

Finally, we’re just a fan of its location, which seems to blend well in the vibrant neighborhood in King West. It’s accessible, it’s eclectic, it’s all that you can expect in an upscale studio like this.

Makes your vision come true

Jillian has been an absolute pleasure to work with. When I contacted her, after being recommended highly by a friend, I asked if she would be able to do one of her bat flash but add some text and splashes of red to make it an MCR Tattoo. Not only was she okay with that, she was stoked and was happy to help make my vision come true. She’s been both professional and super pleasant, making me super excited for one of my first tattoos in 2years! Thanks Jillian for being awesome. – Haley Mawby

Kind and accommodating

Came to Golden Iron Tattoo for my first tattoo and was tattooed by Nathalee. She was very kind and accommodating, even staying after closing hours to complete the tattoo. Overall, great experience, specially for a first time. Will definitely come back in the future! 5/5 – Kai Wong

Their styles are vast, including Watercolor, Japanese, blackwork, line, fine line, trash realism, and anime. So if you’re up for any one of those styles we suggest you look at their portfolio.

Customer Reviews

Will be back!

Went into the shop as a first time client, 100% leaving as a return/future client. Brian Daka was the artist I was booked with. This wasn’t my first tattoo, and he respected that, and still chose to go above and beyond to make sure I was cool with everything before getting started. Brian was super diligent with cleaning, and disinfecting, and took additional time to make sure I was comfortable before starting.

His lines were beautiful, his personal judgement on size and placement were dead on, and he even did a second tattoo for me with zero questions asked, no pain, super awesome chair side manner, all around best experience compared to previous shops.

The shop is modern, clean, open and organized! Easy process in terms of communication when booking, deposits, waivers, accessibility and overall flow of the business! Will be back 🙂 – Chelsea Shantz

They will make you feel like you’re at home.

Great experience getting my tattoo at this shop!! They hold cleanliness to the highest standard and make sure everything is sanitized. Very accommodating and polite staff. They will make you feel like you’re at home. – Chris Tucci

Tattoos inspired by Poynesian art and tattoos are also widely popular. That’s why if you’re thinking of getting a piece like this that’s custom-made for you, we suggest you check out ROBTATU’s portfolio.

ROBTATU is one of the most sought-after Polynesian Tattoo artists in Canada who specializes in turning your story into an inked art piece. His style is big and bold, just like the tattoos that he does.

His portfolio goes beyond traditional tribal tattoos. While those sleeves are impressive in their own right, we’re also appreciative of the other side of his art style.

ROBTATU also specializes in top quality realism work with smooth shading. So if you’re looking for a piece that would fit that description, he’s a good candidate for your next tattoo artist.

Customer Reviews

I couldn’t have been more pleased with the work, value, and overall experience.

Just had my third tattoo done over the past few years, all by Rob. As with the other two, the quality, i.e., the realism and attention to detail, was just great. The first two he helped me design so that I would have something uniquely meaningful and entirely my own. And, this time, I sent him a pic of a real and unusual medieval artifact. Which he perfectly copied, and then artfully highlighted, making for a third great piece. Thus, once again, I couldn’t have been more pleased with the work, value, and overall experience. – Jonathan

I could not be happier with his work.

Came here for my first big piece, a Polynesian sleeve. I had seen Rob come highly recommended online elsewhere as being one of the top Polynesian artists in Canada and it’s 100% accurate.

I could not be happier with his work – it’s everything I could have hoped for.  I was getting regular compliments on the sleeve from strangers while it was still in progress!

Rob himself is a great guy too – fun to chat with and honestly he just puts you at ease.  I was definitely looking forward to my monthly sessions because he’s always so welcoming.  I’m already planning to return to him for more work. – Lucas Bates

If you’re looking to get inked for the first time, Matchbox Tattoo is a go-to tattoo shop with plenty of artists for you to choose from.

Matchbox Tattoo provides the much-needed patience and guidance for someone who wanted to start out and become familiar with the tattoo world.

The extremely relaxed atmosphere makes it much easier for beginners to feel safe and their staff are a great help in not making them feel nervous. Their artists have a progressive attitude towards art, leading them to post no judgment against the kind of custom design you may want to get engraved on your body.

Moreover, their clean and sanitized workspace is heavily noted by their regulars. This is something that we absolutely loved as we are still in a pandemic.

Other than their tattoo services, they also offer piercings to their clientele.

Because of these points, they’ve gained popularity even with veterans. Therefore, if you want to get a tattoo done, it is recommended that you book an appointment with them first, even if they do work with walk-ins.

Overall, we recommend Matchbox Tattoo for their clean and professional services. The way they handle their new customers is a plus for us too!

Pros

  • Has a wide range of staff members with different specialties
  • Rates depend on the artist

Cons

  • Non-refundable tattoo deposits
  • Rescheduling requires at least a 72-hour notice or the deposit will be forfeited

Customer Reviews

Beginner and veteran-friendly

I recently visited Matchbox at the new location on queen west. The location is extremely clean and has a great atmosphere. Daysha was my tattoo artist, and I highly recommend her. She was great, very kind, and accommodating. She helped me create an amazing tattoo that I am in love with. I cannot wait to finish my sleeve at this location and would recommend this shop to both people experienced with tattoos and for first-timers.” – Michaela Shaw

Services couldn’t have been better!

My experience at Matchbox couldn’t have been better. They were able to book me in for an appointment at short notice, fostered a welcoming environment in their shop, and offered extremely reasonable prices. My artist, Chelsea, was so sweet and friendly. When there was a delay in the start time for me and my friend’s appointments, she took us out to eat, and we all chatted like the best of friends. And when it was time to get down to tattooing, she was fast, clean, and efficient, all while being gentle and checking to make sure we were okay. I love the tattoo I got out of this experience, and I would definitely return in the future!”- Katie Irvine

If you’re eyeing tattoos with intricate linework and shade work, we strongly recommend you to check out the talented artists in Little Pond Studio. Owned and operated by three amazing tattoo artists, Niki, Bobbi, and Baki, they offer something different in the tattoo market.

Their portfolio showcases stunning fine line work. So if you’re thinking of getting delicate, minimalist tattoos or getting that dreamy vibe in your next piece, we encourage you to browse through their website, their shop Instagram, as well as the artists’ individual Instagrams.

We appreciate that Little Pond Studio is an eco-friendly tattoo shop. As they pointed out, keeping studios sanitary require single-use plastics.

Hence, we appreciate the effort that Little Pond Studio puts into making the tattoo shop sustainable. They even have a suggestion box for any ideas you might have!

We also absolutely love the fact that artists book clients individually! Usually, clients will have to keep an eye out for the artist’s booking to open, which will be announced on their Instagram along with everyone’s support of repostings from their IG stories.

Do note that while the shop minimum is $100, every artist’s deposit amount is different! Deposits are nonrefundable, but they are super flexible with that, so if they get cold feet or something happens, they can definitely refund the deposit as long as it’s canceled 48 hours before the appointment.

PS: If you’re a fan of supporting local artists, you can even get stickers, sweaters, keychains, earrings, magnets, etc., in their in-house merch area!

Pros

  • Environmentally-friendly shop
  • Supports local artists
  • Simple booking processes

Cons

  • Short operating hours
  • Deposits will be forfeited if the appointment is canceled less than 48 hours before the session

Attentive to customer’s ideas

I had a great experience at Little Pond Studio! The booking process was simple, and the studio was comfortable and welcoming. I got a custom commission from Baki and she did a great job! She was very attentive and understanding towards what I was looking for and made sure I was happy with the design, size, angle, placement, and all that before proceeding. I would definitely recommend this studio, I felt very comfortable during the entire process :)” – Rae Elder

Homey, cozy, peaceful, and calm

I love the atmosphere of the studio. The place felt homey, cozy, peaceful, and calm. I wasn’t nervous about my tattoo, but I imagine the studio’s ambiance would help relax me if I was. The place smelled great and is aesthetically pleasing. It was neat and tidy and very clean. Bobbi was great. She designed the tattoo so beautifully, and I would love to work with her again. Thank you for my amazing first tattoo experience!”- Amanda Thang
