Established in 1975, Pollock’s Carpet Market has been in the floor covering industry for over 4 decades. Their 12,000 sq ft showroom in Toronto is one of the most prominent shops for carpet product knowledge and expert carpet or rug installation.

With the size of their showroom, their stock of carpets is astounding. They have a good variety of textures available, along with dozens of hand knotted area rugs.

We find it impressive that their gallery contains a collection of over 3,000 rugs in oriental, transitional and contemporary looks. This is a reflection of their range and knowledge in carpet quality and design.

They also have a few design options for machine-made area rugs. They directly import all hand-knotted and machine-made area rugs from various parts of the world.

Their expertise in flooring allows them to guide their customers on what texture, colour, and style of carpet would match a home or office space. We like how they have expertise in flooring selection and installation as well, so they become a one-stop shop for certain clients.

Honestly, there isn’t really anything alarming about this service. We do note that some designs are limited in terms of size, so you will have to compromise.

On the bright side, you can request for a free quote in case you have a special request. Just be mindful that specific requests may be costly.

We recommend Pollock’s Market simply because of their tenure and expertise. They also have a very helpful and friendly staff.

Pros

  • Over four decades in the business
  • Wide selection of hand knotted and machine made carpets
  • Large showroom
  • Friendly staff

Cons

  • Some rug designs are only available in specific sizes

We also commend them for their gallery, which is composed of various photographs that provide inspiration for clients who are reimagining their space. All their photos are Pinterest-worthy and could honestly make it to certain catalogs.

What we find alarming about this service is how their installation process reporrtedly has mishaps. This can be a dealbreaker for many, so we hope they can address it properly.

An honorable company

“Allan Rug stands behind their product 100%. I had carpet installed three years ago that didn’t stand up. I was reluctant to call as it had been some time however they came and inspected and are replacing the carpet in September. Jason was and is a pleasure to work with. Thank you Allan Rug. It’s refreshing to deal with an honorable company.” — Sherry Grossman, via Google

A family owned Toronto carpet company, Carpet Mill has been serving the Toronto community and their neighbours since 1993. They have a trusted list of carpet manufacturers where they purchase their quality carpet rolls and remnants.

What we like most about this service is how they make the process of buying or customising a carpet very personal. They treat each purchase as a project that they carefully execute and assist their clients across all flooring needs.

For their carpet selection, they have assorted stocks of ready-made carpets that can cover an entire house’s space, a certain portion, or even just the stairs. Remnants or smaller carpet configurations are also available.

Their area rug designs can be adopted into carpets as well, so customers really have an abundant selection in terms of design.

We like how they don’t just consider the overall look and feel of a rug in a space. They take time to understand how it can insulate sound and heat.

They also provide extra care for carpets that will be placed in children’s rooms or areas, so you can count on them in terms of safety.

The only thing we find inconvenient about this service is that some of their stocks are old, so the quality would not be as top-notch. While some of their old stocks are usually on sale, we still find that they should prioritise the durability of their products.

Carpet Mill is perfect if you are the type of client who wants to be involved in the entire buying process. You can select whichever design you prefer while receiving good customer assistance.

Pros

  • Family-owned business
  • Reasonable prices
  • Has a trusted list of carpet manufacturers
  • Very thorough and client-involved process

Cons

  • Some carpets are old stocks
  • Has a few online complaints about a rude staff member

Imperial Carpet & Home has one of the most beautiful showrooms across all carpet and flooring businesses in Toronto. People usually address their store as a rug gallery or museum given their nice set-up and wide array of available choices.

This business has been around for over 49 years and their owner has traveled to different countries, hence the range of their selection. They develop their products with join-venture factories and take into consideration the latest weaves, textures, colours and patterns.

Their prices can go as low as 400 CAD and can be as expensive as 25,000 CAD, depending on what you need. They also have wholesale pricing.

Probably the best thing about this business is how they have a collection for every person. Whether you want a traditional, transitional, or contemporary rug, they can provide you with one or more.

This store makes a good option for those who are very particular in terms of the style, colour, and texture they want. They even have carpets that have nature-inspired prints and patterns.

We do warn that given their branding as a business, most of the products of Imperial Carpet & Home are on the expensive side. You can get a cheap rug or carpet but it will probably be a small one or not the beautiful kind.

All said, we still believe that Imperial Carpet & Home is worth recommending. Their dedication to their craft and state-of-the-art facility and products definitely make them a good place for carpets.

Pros

  • Museum-like showroom
  • Has a number of unique and beautiful collections
  • Around 50 years in the business

Cons

  • Most items are expensive
  • Most carpets are printed and they rarely have plain and single pattern or coloured ones

Customer Reviews

Amazing and beautiful selection of carpets

“Wow what an amazing and beautiful selection of carpets and area rugs. Any shape, size or colour can be found at Imperial Carpets. Founded in 1925, Alexanian Carpet & Flooring started as a store that specialises in imported, hand-knotted, oriental rugs from around the world. Their founder, Aris Alexianian, eventually traveled to the Middle East and India and expanded the company’s selection.

This company now carries different brands, styles, and even services relating to carpet and flooring. Their per square foot rates start at very affordable prices.

We like how this brand is focused on the practicality of buying a carpet. They categorise finds by whether they are pet-friendly, suitable for high-traffic areas, comfort-focused, or simply decorative.

They even have a specific collection that contains carpets and rugs for impressive resilience and improved air quality and climate. These are sisal and natural carpets that are nontoxic and won’t off-gas any volatile organic compounds.

For those who are not yet fixated on what they want to get, Alexanian offers carpet samples that clients can use to compare products before purchasing.

A carpet buying guide is also available to assist clients in considering factors such as colours, pile thickness, construction, and carpet underpad. They also perform carpet cleaning services, which is very convenient.

There isn’t really anything we dislike about this service. We do acknowledge that they do not have the most extensive range of carpets and that their designs are not as intricate compared to their competitors.

Alexanian Carpet & Flooring is perfect for those who are looking for a carpet for a specific area in their home. They make a good option if you want a simple, quality, and functional floor cover.

Pros

  • Almost a hundred years experience
  • Carpets are categorised according to function or benefit
  • Starting rates are very affordable

Cons

  • Can still improve and expand their carpet designs
  • Installation is reportedly overpriced
