For more than 20 years, the International Language Academy of Canada has been one of the most recognizable names when it comes to language schools in Canada.
We like how ILAC separates its English programs by age groups. Adults 18+ can dive into General English programs, professionals 30+ get tailored Business English courses, and teens 15 to 18 can sign up for Young Adult English Programs.
Beginner to intermediate Adult French online classes are offered as well. Unfortunately, we heard that sometimes, their French teachers seemed unprepared for lessons, so that’s something to keep in mind.
As for students looking for a “home away from home,” they have a Homestay Program, which includes a private or shared room and two or three meals a day.

If you’re interested in learning German, you can join their language program abroad in Berlin and Freiburg. They offer everything, from one-week intensive classes for complete beginners to longer academic programs.
Their French courses also cater to every level, with shorter two-week intensives for newcomers. And they can even arrange for you to study in Lyon or Montreux, which is pretty cool.
Of course, expect these arrangements abroad to be pricey.
In addition to these programs, international students can also go to Toronto and join the 12-week English for Academic Pathways course. This is great for learners who plan to continue into higher education in an English-speaking country.

English and French are both offered here, and they’re taught in a variety of formats. There’s General Language for everyday fluency, Business Language for workplace settings, Exam Prep for IELTS or DELF, and One-to-One Lessons.
We like their use of the Mediation Assessment method, which emphasizes conversation over rigid testing. This encourages students to engage, share ideas, and develop confidence in speaking—something traditional schools overlook.
You can also download free online resources from their website, such as their Progression Chart, which can help track your learning.
Not everything is rosy, however. We heard about teachers who can come across as rude, which might affect the confidence of the students.
