5 Best Gyms and Studios for Fitness Classes in Toronto That Locals Actually Stick With

top-fitness-class-studios-toronto
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Expertise - We chose fitness studios that are led by certified trainers and instructors who bring years of experience and real results to their classes.
  • Class Variety - We picked places offering a wide range of classes, from HIIT to pilates to dance cardio. Basically, there’s something for every fitness goal.
  • Value for Money - We prioritized spots that offer comprehensive pricing, class packs, and first-timer deals, so you get serious sweat without breaking the bank.
  • Flexibility - We favored studios that offer early morning, lunchtime, and evening classes to fit even the busiest schedules.
  • Results and Reviews - We considered member testimonials, online ratings, and before-and-afters that show real progress.

A friend of mine complained about her stalled fitness journey. She kept signing up for classes, finding fault with them (e.g. boring instructors, difficult pacing, expensive cost, etc.), then quitting.

That’s when I invited her to my favorite HIIT class spot in the city. Three months in, and she’s still having the time of her life. Mission accomplished!

Fitness classes shouldn’t be something that you’re dreading (like a trip to the dentist). They should be challenging but doable, cost-effective, and most of all, fun.

If you’re planning to sweat out the bad stuff, it might as well be in one of the top fitness hubs in Toronto, right? So, check out my curated list below.

How much do fitness classes cost in Toronto?

Fitness classes in Toronto typically cost between $15 and $35 per session, depending on the studio and class type. Monthly memberships usually range from $100 to $250, especially if they include unlimited access.
Boutique spots like spin or barre might lean toward the higher end, while community centers or gym-based classes can be more affordable. Many places offer class packs or intro deals that lower the per-class price.

Fit Factory has been a go-to spot for fitness classes in Toronto since 2012—we’re talking over 300 monthly classes! They’ve been featured everywhere, from CP24 to CBC News, so you know they’re legit.

Their signature class, Bootcamp Burn, is a full-body workout (for all levels) that’s packed with drills, weights, bodyweight moves, and plyometrics. Bring your running shoes on sunny days since classes might be held outdoors!

And if you want to target your core, sign up for their Abs Assault Build, a 45-minute workout that is laser-focused on curating your six-pack.

Need proof that their classes work? Then, their Success Stories page is worth a scroll. These before-and-after “Makeover of the Month” pics are seriously jaw-dropping.

Best variety of classes for all fitness levels

“I’ve tried all the popular group fitness gyms (F45, Barrys, S&T) and can confidently say Fit Factory is the best. They offer the best variety of classes for all fitness levels in a highly energetic and motivating environment. The instructors are all super welcoming and they take the time to explain each exercise and come around to provide guidance during the class. Customer service from the staff and owners is also exceptional here. If you’re looking for a gym that will push your limits, give you results and make you feel part of a community, this is the place to be!”

Tucked in the heart of Midtown, OMJ FITNESS is a boutique studio that’s an inclusive space for all ages and body types, especially for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

I have to say, their studio is designed to a tee. They have 8-foot mirrors, 180 Nanoleaf LED lights, cork foam underlay flooring, and an Isawall smart wall system (with the only customizable ballet barre in Toronto).

Speaking of barre, they offer BurnBarre classes, which mix classic barre with AMRAP and HIIT moves for a fierce, bootcamp-style workout.

If you want to focus more on strength, their SculptBarre classes might do the trick. Here, you’ll use light weights and precise movements to target and tone—perfect if you want that lean muscle look.

Yes, their classes are a bit on the pricey side. So, if you’re unsure, book a free consultation to check out the space.

  • Impeccably designed space

  • Offers BurnBarre classes

The best workout studio I have joined!

“The best workout studio I have joined! Over the last year, I tried numerous studios and classes. Johnny is such a fun and motivated trainer. After taking occasional classes, I decided to try the 2 weeks of unlimited classes and experienced numerous workouts. One of my favorites was TRX, saucy, and barre class. It’s a fun environment with great people. The very cute and unique studio is easily accessible by public transit and has great amenities. My body toned up, and Johnny kept me motivated to continue my workouts. Sometimes you need a little push to keep going, and if you are one of them, they have an amazing playlist to help you stay healthy, look fabulous, and stay mentally strong! I am definitely coming back and can’t wait to see everyone. Check out their promos or perks on their Instagram page. Thanks, Johnny Nat🤗

Cleanest and best-smelling studio I’ve ever been to

“Highly recommended if you’re looking for a warm, supportive, and safe space to move and get stronger. OMJ Fitness is seriously the cleanest and best-smelling studio I’ve ever been to. It’s always spotless, fresh, and feels super welcoming. The space is small but perfectly equipped, and every detail is clearly well thought out. Johnny brings such great energy to every class — fun, encouraging, and super attentive. Because the classes are small, he’s able to adjust and support everyone, which makes a huge difference. The studio offers a great mix of classes like TRX, Barre, strength training, and yoga. I’ve tried almost all of them, and honestly, Barre feels like Johnny’s signature. It’s the perfect combo of control, intensity, and burn. You have to try at least one class!!”

One of the best decisions I’ve made

“One thing I know for sure is that giving Shine a chance has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I used to see them on Instagram and just scroll past until I finally decided to give it a try. Since then, Shine has helped me sleep better, feel more grounded, and manage my stress and anxiety in healthier ways. It’s become a daily part of my routine, and I truly look forward to it. What I love most about Shine is how warm, inclusive, and supportive it feels. Thank you, Shine!”

It has really changed my life

“I’ve been coming to shine for about 7 months now, and it has really changed my life. If you are looking for a place to get your body moving and find an amazing community, Shine is all that. There are many different class types, so there is something for everyone, expect to jump and dance around in all of them. Some of the benefits I’ve gotten from Shine are feeling more comfortable in my body, helping me find like-minded people who have become great friends, and it has made me a more resilient person. I only have great things to say about this studio, 10/10 would recommend to all.”

BUSINESS HOURSDepends on the instructors

Recess Fit Club is a family-owned Toronto gym (a bit small but does the trick) that offers accessible strength and circuit training for everyone.

Their most popular class, Get Stronger, is a 50-minute strength session that uses kettlebells, dumbbells, and barbells. The motto here is “slow and steady, not so sweaty.”

A unique program they offer is their Queer Workout Club (QWC), designed by and for LGBTQIA2S+ community. Led by queer instructors in a supportive space, each class includes a guided warm-up, strength-focused workout, and personalized modifications.

If classes fill up (which they often do!), you can hop on the waitlist, and their system will automatically book you if someone cancels.

Excited to try them out? Your first class is just $8 if you book online!

Pros

  • Strength and circuit training classes
  • Has a signature Get Stronger class
  • Offers a Queer Workout Club
  • Has a waitlist for full classes
  • $8 promo for the first class

Cons

  • Space is a bit small

Instantly fell in love with the first class

“A family member of mine started going to this gym, and I decided to try it out as well.

Instantly fell in love with the first class, and I’ve been going each week. Unlike the YMCA and other gyms, which are “come as you please” type gyms, this gym makes you book a class ahead of time, which gives you a responsibility and commitment to go. So if you’re the type of person to skip an exercise day because you don’t feel like going, Recess Fit Club gives you an incentive to go because you reserved a spot. As a Queer person who is not cis-gendered, I experience a lot of dysphoria with my body. I found going to the YMCA triggering, and this stopped me from working out altogether and enjoying my time exercising. I find gyms like the YMCA attract a certain crowd, and you feel a lot of pressure and insecurity.”

Couldn’t be happier with the classes

“I started at Recess Fit Club this July and couldn’t be happier with the classes. The trainers are incredible (special shoutout to Nat and Mariah!), and the space is bright and clean. I appreciate that their classes aren’t overcrowded, nor do they charge any kind of additional annual/monthly fee; you just pay for the classes you want, or the membership you want. No mirrors inside was a plus for me as someone who has frequented gym spaces — it actually helps me focus on how I feel and my form. During my first class, I was greeted by both Adrian and Millie, and they are so friendly and helpful.”

BUSINESS HOURSMon - Fri: 5:45 AM – 10 PM

Sat - Sun: 6:45 AM – 10 PM

Located at Yonge & Shuter, Sweat and Tonic is a 16,000-square-foot facility that has three workout studios under one roof!

Their HIIT classes are built to push you with strong, intense bursts of movement followed by just enough recovery to keep you going. Expect treadmill drills, resistance work, weight training, and even boxing.

If you want to take it slow, they also offer Vinyasa yoga classes that are focused on movement and mindfulness. As a bonus, they even set up your mat, props, and towels, so you can just walk in and focus on your flow.

After class, I recommend visiting their on-site bar. You can refuel with smoothies, juices, and healthy toasts, or treat yourself to a handcrafted cocktail!

The only catch is that some popular classes can get pretty crowded, especially during peak hours.

Pros

  • Three workout studios under one roof
  • Offers intense HIIT classes
  • Has Vinyasa yoga classes
  • Free yoga setup
  • Has an on-site bar

Cons

  • Classes can get crowded

Her classes are the best part of my week

“This gym is my favorite place, with an amazing community, and Erika in the spin room takes it to another level! Her unmatched energy, killer playlists, and knack for bringing people out of their shells make her classes the best part of my week. I always leave feeling stronger, more confident, and inspired. Thursdays wouldn’t be the same without her—we need more of her magic in the new year!”

I couldn’t have chosen a better place!

“Yesterday was my first time at this gym—and also my very first spin class—and I couldn’t have chosen a better place! The ambiance is energetic, the equipment is high-quality, and the whole experience felt welcoming from the moment I arrived. Even though I got there right on time, Kiara went above and beyond to help me find the right shoes quickly and guided me through the entire process with patience and enthusiasm. It made such a difference as a first-timer. Thank you, Kiara, for making my experience so positive! (:”
