5 Best Dairy Farms in and Around Toronto That Locals Visit to Satisfy Their Lactose Cravings

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.
  • Expertise - We chose dairy farms run by experienced farmers who understand animal care, sustainable practices, and quality milk production.
  • Freshness - We looked for farms that offer ultra-fresh milk, cheese, and other dairy products, often made or bottled the same day.
  • Animal Welfare - We prioritized farms where cows are well-treated, free-range, and raised in humane, stress-free environments.
  • Sustainability - We considered eco-friendly operations that use responsible farming methods, reduce waste, and care for the land.
  • Farm Experience - We included farms that welcome visitors for tours, tastings, and hands-on experiences that make your dairy run extra fun.

I’m not going to pretend that I don’t buy milk and cheese from the grocery store. But whenever I feel like giving myself a treat, I visit a dairy farm in and around the city.

Yes, there’s a big difference: the flavor is richer, the textures are creamier, and the products are made with care by people who know the cows by name! Plus, many of these farms offer tours, tastings, and fun extras like homemade ice cream.

Ready to go beyond the grocery aisle? Here are the best Toronto dairy farms that I always hit up for that fresh, local goodness.

How much do farm-fresh dairy products cost in Toronto?

Farm-fresh dairy products in Toronto usually start around $3 to $5 for milk and $8 or more for artisan cheese.
These prices reflect the small-batch quality, local sourcing, and extra care that goes into production. Butter, yogurt, and other dairy treats also tend to be priced a bit higher than supermarket brands.

Summit Station Dairy & Creamery is a Copetown farm nestled on land bought by Joe in 1947. It has since grown from just 15 Holstein cows to a fourth-generation operation run by his grandson.

I love that it has serious street cred. It was recognized with the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce’s Ironman Award and regularly ranked among Canada’s Top 10 Best Managed Dairy Herds.

And you know that classic ad, ‘Got Milk?’ Well, that they do—from whole, 2%, and unhomogenized to chocolate and strawberry. They even sell delicious bottled cream.

You can buy them online, or better yet, visit their on-farm store, where you can see cheese curds being made via a viewing window. They even have a dairy bar, where you can sip milk or coffee paired with freshly baked cookies or ice cream—yum!

Just watch out for a few staff members who might be a bit unfriendly.

Pros

  • Has over 75 years of experience
  • Hamilton Chamber of Commerce’s Ironman Award
  • Canada’s Top 10 Best Managed Dairy Herds
  • Wide range of milk and cream
  • Has online and on-farm stores
  • Has a dairy bar onsite

Cons

  • Reports of unfriendly staff

Beautiful dairy farm shop

“Beautiful dairy farm shop. An amazing array of items from cheese curds to flavoured milk. My husband, who does not like coffee, added the coffee flavour to his hot chai, which also elevated my coffee to a whole new level. I foamed the coffee flavour and added it to the coffee, the best! All the flavours are wonderful. I highly recommend the butterscotch ice cream! We are very fortunate in southern Ontario!”

Very nice facility & great products

“Modern and country at the same time! There’s something special about enjoying a cold bottle of milk while you stand next to the cows that made it. Very nice facility and great products. Plenty of parking for the busy summer days and lots of places to sit around the building to enjoy the tasty treats. A wonderful place to visit while out for a country drive with the family or grab a couple of bottles of milk for the week.”

Yep, they have 60 registered milking bovines, known for producing dairy that’s 100% A2—a type that many people with lactose sensitivities find easier to digest. They offer three kinds: 4.8% non-homogenized and 2%, as well as 4% chocolate milk.

Customers rave about their Guernsey cheese and all-natural Balkan-style yogurt as well, with some even driving for over an hour to stock up.

Located in the beautiful Sheldon Valley, Sheldon Creek Dairy is definitely worth the trip.

Their herd of 75 Holstein cows is specially bred for A2A2 genetics, which means the milk they produce is free of A1 proteins. So, not only is it creamy and tasty, but it’s also easier on the tummy.

Of course, they carry your staples like whole, skim, and chocolate milk, but they also offer unique flavors like banana, orange creamsicle, and even pina colada. And if you’re into cultured dairy, yogurt and kefir are available at their on-site farm store, too.

What’s cool is that they have wholesale options as well. So, if you’re looking to stock up for your home or small business, they have you covered.

Unfortunately, we heard isolated reports of the milk tasting a little watery at times, depending on the batch.

Pros

  • Holstein cows bred for A2A2 genetics
  • Offers milk in unique flavors
  • Wide range of cultured dairy
  • Has wholesale options

Cons

  • Isolated reports of watery milk

A2 milk is always fresh and non-homogenized

“I like their storefront and the products they have from their own dairy and from other local suppliers. Their A2 milk is always fresh and non-homogenized. They sell amazing chocolate milk, both in A2 and regular versions. The diary is in a peaceful location away from the city. It’s worth a drive on the weekends to grab some of the goodies. Some of the milk and meat items are on sale once in a while. I haven’t tasted their ice cream yet as the stall was closed during the times I visited the dairy farm.”

Their dairy products are beyond delicious

“Oh. My. Gosh. Their flavored milks and dairy products are beyond delicious. I’m always excitedly awaiting the new flavored milk of the month. Such a treat!”

Mapleton’s Organic Dairy is a family-run farm that does everything in a sustainable way. They grow their own feed, compost their manure, and use it to enrich the fields, making sure their dairy herd is well taken care of.

Their on-farm milk self-serve dispenser is a big highlight. Just bring your own jug or grab one onsite and fill it up with fresh, pasteurized, and homogenized organic milk for just $3.50 per liter—they even have a rewards program, making your 7th liter free!

Beyond milk, their premium ice cream is a big crowd-pleaser. And for something lighter, you can try their vanilla or strawberry frozen yogurt (my favorite!).

Feel free to bring the kids since the farm accepts visitors for only $5 per person.

One downside we heard about—some guests have noted that staff can come across as a bit rude.

Pros

  • Grows their own herd feed
  • Pasteurized & homogenized milk
  • Has a self-serve dispenser
  • Your 7th liter of milk is free
  • Also has ice cream & yogurt
  • Accept farm visitors

Cons

  • Somewhat unfriendly staff

They carry a fantastic range of Harmony Organic Milk, which comes in returnable glass bottles or 4-liter bags. You can choose from 1%, 2%, full-fat, non-homogenized, or chocolate-vanilla options.

For those who struggle with dairy, they also carry 100% Guernsey milk from Eby Manor, which is easier to digest. Even co-owner Jacquie swears by it herself!
