Leaside is one of those Toronto neighborhoods that just feels special—tree-lined streets, cozy community vibes, and so much green space. And at the heart of it all is Leaside Park.
This spot is my go-to if I want a little escape without leaving the city. I just love walking the trails with my furry friend, kicking back on the grass, or grabbing a game on the tennis courts.
In this guide, I’ll share all my favorite ways to make the most of Leaside Park, plus a few insider tips to help you love it as much as I do.
Where is Leaside Park?

Leaside Park is located at 5 Leaside Park Drive in Toronto, just near the intersection of Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard. It’s a 3.4-hectare space that offers trails, sports facilities, and relaxing spots for visitors.
How to Get to Leaside Park
By Car:
To get to Leaside Park from downtown Toronto, hop on Dundas St West, merge onto the Don Valley Parkway North, and follow it to Leaside Park Drive in East York.
From there, it’s only about 140 meters to the park entrance. The whole trip is around 10.5 km and usually takes about 20 to 25 minutes, depending on the traffic.
By Bus:
Take the 301 Queen streetcar east to Carlaw Ave. From there, hop on the 325 Don Mills bus, which will take you toward Overlea Boulevard and Millwood Road.
Get off at Overlea Boulevard at Millwood Rd East Side, then it’s just a 4-minute walk to the park entrance. Depending on the time of day, the whole trip takes about 50 minutes.
By Bike:
From downtown Toronto, head east on Dundas St West and make your way to University Ave, then turn right onto Gerrard St West. Continue along River St and Bayview Ave, following signs toward the Lower Don River Trail.
Stay on the trail as it winds through the Don Valley, then follow Redway Rd and Millwood Rd until you reach Leaside Park. The route is about 10 km and takes roughly 40 to 50 minutes by bike or longer if walking.

While members can reserve courts up to 6 days in advance, non-members can simply walk up or call to see if a court is free. If a court is open, you can easily pay the guest fees using a credit card or e-transfer.
The club also offers tennis lessons for non-members. In fact, you can sign up for any junior program and receive a free junior membership, valued at $90.

If you’re planning a game or practice at Leaside Park, the ball diamond is a fantastic spot—it’s even fully lit, which is perfect for evening games.
But unlike casual open fields, it requires a permit from the City of Toronto. To book, call Client Services at 416-396-7378 and select option 2. Be ready to provide info about your game, practice, tournament, or special event.
You should also check for weather closures. The diamond may close temporarily due to weather, so confirm availability before heading out.

Leaside Park is a hit with families thanks to its children’s playground. There’s plenty of space for kids to climb, slide, and burn off energy while parents can relax nearby.
It’s one of those spots where you can easily spend an hour or two without realizing it. While the kids go crazy, you can do yoga, read a book, or play outdoor chess at one of the chess tables in the park.
I also recommend packing snacks and toys or grabbing a coffee on your way to make your stay more comfy and enjoyable.

On a hot summer day, nothing beats the Leaside outdoor pool. It’s a refreshing way to cool down after a walk or a game on the courts, and it’s also family-friendly.
If you’re planning ahead, check the seasonal hours before you go. The pool is usually open during the summer months, from 10 AM to 6:15 PM to 6:45 PM.
Note that early mornings and evenings tend to be less crowded.

If you love a good walk or run, the park’s pathways are perfect for a leisurely stroll or jog. The mix of open spaces and tree-covered paths makes it feel peaceful.
I recommend bringing a picnic blanket and a water bottle so you can chill at the sports field after your exercise.
It’s also dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your furry friend. Just make sure to keep them leashed and bring waste bags to keep the park clean for everyone.

Ajwa Pizza n Grill is just an 8-minute walk away from Leaside Park. This low-key halal eatery is known for its unique pizzas—its dough is made in-house every day, and they top it with only the freshest ingredients.
My favorite is their Tandoori Chicken Pizza, which has tender chicken, bold spices, and lots of cheese. This is also a perfect to-go food if you want to have a lovely picnic at Leaside Park.
If you’re not in the mood for pizza (though trust me, you should be), they also serve crispy hot wings that hit the spot every time.

Everything here is made fresh, with 100% halal meat and natural ingredients. Their menu is packed with craveable options, but my go-to order is the Heavenly Cheese—a juicy five-ounce beef patty with gooey cheese inside.
For a lovely Leaside picnic, I suggest grabbing some burgers, a basket of spicy, sweet, and tangy wings, and cold cans of Coke.
