7 Best Green Retailers in Toronto That Local Eco-Friendly Shoppers Are Proud Of

After watching a powerful documentary on the impact of consumer choices, I realized we all have to do our part in protecting the planet.

That’s why I made a list of the best green retailers Toronto has to offer for conscious shoppers like us. I truly believe that shopping sustainably isn’t just a trend—it’s a way to make everyday choices that matter.

So, if you want to join me in doing my small part for our home, here’s my guide to the spots local eco warriors (like me!) can’t get enough of.

The RE Place

Address: 2165B Danforth Ave
Hours:

  • Mon – Fri: 8 AM – 5 PM
  • Sat – Sun: 7:30 AM – 5 PM

Contact: (416) 690-7373

The RE Place is a community-based shop that makes reducing waste easy, and honestly, pretty fun. You can swing by their brick-and-mortar shop or browse online—either way, every product is designed to help you feel good about your choices.

Their name says it all—REfill, REuse, REduce. When you hit the bottom of your plastic laundry detergent tub, all-purpose cleaners, deodorants, lotions, sunscreens, or more, simply bring your containers and they’ll be happy to REfill them!

We like their commitment to sourcing, too. To reduce their carbon footprint, they always start with Ontario first, then Canada, then North America, before looking globally.

And because everyone loves a good perk, they offer REward Points. It’s your all-access pass to exclusive rewards, discounts, and fun bonuses—just for shopping the sustainable way. How cool is that?

Pro Tip:

Need a thoughtful, zero-waste gift? The RE Place offers virtual gift cards that you can load up with any amount, from $10 to $100, and email to someone you love.

Ava’s Appletree was founded by Alexandra, who grew up in Germany, where sustainability is second nature. After moving to Canada and becoming a parent, she wanted safe, eco-friendly options for her kids.

The shop’s products are rooted in Waldorf and Montessori philosophies, which encourage creativity and mindful play. And their toy collection is made with all-natural materials—no plastic overload here, just beautiful, sustainable pieces designed to last.

In addition to toys, they also carry cloth diapers, arts and crafts supplies, books, organic clothing, natural lotions, lunch gear, and more. These items are all sourced from sustainable brands like Grimm’s Toys, Maileg, Kyte Baby, and Engel.

We love that they send invoices and communication via email to reduce paper waste, and when they do print, it’s on 100% recycled paper.

Pro Tip:

For additional savings, we recommend signing up for the Appletree Rewards Program. For every $1 you spend (before tax and shipping), you’ll earn 1 Apple Point—if you gain 150 points, you get $5 off, and 550 points is equal to $20 off.

Horses Atelier, founded by lifelong friends and novelists in 2012, is a label that celebrates female strength and intellect. Fun Fact: their very first design, the now-iconic slip dress, was profiled in Vogue just months after the brand launched!

Each piece here is cut using luxury and sustainable textiles from family-owned mills in Italy and Japan. As a cherry on top, everything is consciously sewn right here in downtown Toronto.

That’s probably why they’ve earned serious love from the fashion world. They’ve been featured in Vogue, Elle, Goop, and even HBO, and their celebrity fans include Jourdan Dunn, Margaret Atwood, Jemima Kirke, and Andie MacDowell.

Don’t miss their seasonal sales, where you can score up to 70% off during events like the Summer Sale. Simply check online for discount codes before placing your order.

Pro Tip:

If you spend $500 or more at Horses Atelier, you can enjoy free shipping across Canada via UPS or Canada Post, with delivery in two to seven business days.
