We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Last summer, my buddy decided to host a backyard BBQ for his friends and family, and he knew the usual supermarket cuts just wouldn’t cut it. So, he hit up a local butcher shop instead, and wow—it was epic!

Juicy steaks, perfectly marbled ribs, and the freshest burgers you could imagine had everyone coming back for seconds (and thirds).

I had to ask him where he got his meat because it was that good—turns out, he found one of Toronto’s best butcher shops.

So, if you’re looking to level up your grilling game and impress your crew, check out these top butcher shops in Toronto that are guaranteed to bring the flavor.

How much does meat in a butcher shop cost in Toronto?

Meat at butcher shops in Toronto typically costs $10 to $25 per pound for common cuts, with premium selections going even higher. Factors like quality, sourcing, and whether the meat is organic or grass-fed can affect the price.
Some butcher shops offer bulk deals or specials on certain cuts, making it easier to find quality meat at a reasonable price.

“One of the best butcher shops that I have been to. They had so many options and we were able to try deer for the first time. We also got the option of buying a rabbit which I enjoyed. Looking forward to visiting again. Thank you for your great customer, service and affordable prices.”

Vince Gasparro’s Meat Market dates back to 1957 when Vince himself moved to Toronto from Italy. Today, this family-run butcher shop is now in the hands of his sons, Pat and Nick.

Their grain-fed, free-run chicken is a customer favorite—not just because it’s high quality, but also because it’s reasonably priced.

In addition, we love that they source only humanely raised beef, pork, and lamb from small Ontario farms.

Now, if you’re looking for something quick and delicious, their house-made sausages, burgers, and kebabs are a must-try. And when the holidays roll around, they’ve got the perfect turkey, capon, or Christmas ham.

As a bonus, they stock imported Italian goods, including buffalo mozzarella, De Cecco pasta, Parma prosciutto, and rich unfiltered olive oil.

Note that some customers have received inaccurately sized cuts. Mistakes happen, but they’re usually happy to make things right if you point it out.

Pros

  • Over 70 years of experience
  • Grain-fed, free-run chicken
  • Humanely raised beef, pork, and lamb
  • House-made sausages, burgers, and kebabs

By far the BEST selection of Ontario beef in Toronto

“When it comes to beef I am extremely picky. I look for marbling, quality of cut, size of caps, fat to meat content, freshness and just overall appeal. I am the type of guy that goes into a butcher with not pre-set idea of what I am looking for but rather make my decision based on the best cut/steak available. If you are like me, be prepared to spend a lot of time at gasperros as they have by far the BEST selection of Ontario beef in Toronto. I’ve been going to this place for years and was introduced to gassprerros through a friends father. This place is an absolute gem and has gotten better with age. If you are looking for beef, sausages, burger and more, look no further. Btw- you have to try their Bavette steaks!”

Carries only the best Prime, and the price is so good

“The team at Gasparro’s always take care of my ribeye and strip requirements. There is a big difference in succulent taste between AAA and Prime…Gasparro’s carries only the best Prime, and the price is so good. I always go camping with the boys and the ribeyes and strip yeah we compare and trade. Needless to say, Gasparro’s always wins in all categories especially thickness of cut. Thanks as always guys !!!”

Butchers of Distinction is a traditional butcher shop that focuses exclusively on Ontario-grown, raised or made products.

Their beef is raised without hormones or antibiotics—they even list the exact feed regime from their trusted farmers. And thanks to their dry-aging process, the beef packs an extraordinarily rich, concentrated flavor.

The shop’s pork game is just as strong. They source whole carcasses directly from two local farmers and break it all down in-house throughout the week, so you’re guaranteed fresh cuts every time you stop by.

A rotating selection of fresh, local game meat is available as well.

Not in the mood to cook? They have a variety of prepared foods ready for pickup or delivery—from hearty in-house beef pies and rich beef chili to smoked bacon and vac-packed whole meals.

However, we heard about staff being a bit rude.

Pros

  • Offers dry-aged Ontario-grown beef
  • Lists the exact feed regime of their beef
  • Sources pork from two humane local farmers
  • Offers fresh, local game meat
  • Variety of prepared foods available

Cons

  • Reports of rude staff

My favorite butcher shop in the city!

“My favourite butcher shop in the city! The variety of cuts is great and so are the prices for the quality you get. Their house-cured meats selection is phenomenal and they also do prepared foods like pies and soups. The space feels open and inviting and you don’t feel pressured to know your order right away, which I appreciate because I’m someone who likes to browse before buying. Above all, the customer service is friendly, helpful and kind, which in my opinion is a rarity for butcher shops in the city. 5/5 😊”

In-house prepared sausages are the best in the city

“We are really luck to have Butchers of Distinction as our local butcher. Their steaks, chicken and pork roasts are all incredible… but their in house prepared sausages are the best in the city. Their green chorizo is a household favourite, however you can’t go wrong with any choice. Always fresh tasting, and packed with flavour. Their blueberry sausages sound like something that shouldn’t exist.. and they are absolutely delicious. If you find yourself around Queen and Broadview, Butchers of Distinction is a must visit.”

BUSINESS HOURS Mon - Sat: 8 AM – 7 PM

Sunday: 8 AM – 4:45 PM

Nosso Talho was established in 1974 by two Portuguese immigrants, Julio Lima and Francisco Silva. “O Nosso Talho,” literally means “Our Butcher Shop”—exactly the kind of warm, community-focused vibe you’ll find here.

When it comes to poultry, they work with an exclusive network of Ontario farmers who naturally raise their birds, and each cut is handcrafted in-store.

Beef lovers won’t be disappointed either. They only use premium AAA+ beef, sourced from local Ontario farms where cattle are pasture-raised and grain-finished to achieve that perfect marbling.

But it’s not just about the meat here—we love their delicatessen and cheese selection too. Examples include Provolone cheese, as well as prosciutto and soppressata.

If you’re feeling a bit homesick for Portugal, Brazil, or South America, feel free to snag some of their imported groceries.

The only downside is that their prices can be a bit high.

Pros

  • Over 50 years of experience
  • Naturally raised poultry
  • Offers premium AAA+ beef
  • Delicatessen and cheese selection
  • Imported goods from Portugal, Brazil, or South America

Cons

  • A bit pricey

Has been my go-to butcher shop for years

“This has been my go-to butcher shop for years, where I always buy meat and chicken. They provide excellent service and will cut or slice to order, whether frozen or fresh. The large display of both fresh and frozen items makes browsing easy. The staff are friendly, and the place is always busy. There’s also a deli on the other side of the store with a wide selection of cheeses. I highly recommend them. There’s a handy paid parking via entrance at the back of the store.”
