I’m always up for creamy lattes or trendy matcha drinks when I’m catching up with my friends. But when I’m on a health kick or need to power through a big project, only an Americano will do.
Served hot or iced, these bold brews keep me focused—I mean, after a couple of sips, I feel like I can do anything (without the extra sugar or calories)! But here’s the thing, since they have nothing else to fall back on—no milk, no foam—the flavor has to deliver.
So, if you’re serious about your coffee, here are the only Americano spots in Toronto worth putting on your bucket list.

Sumach Espresso is a hidden gem in Corktown. Their mission is to share their love of coffee, and it shows the second you walk in.
You’ll smell Rufino Classic Gourmet beans being brewed, which means your Americano would be rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. I think it’s bold enough to wake you up, but it’s never off-puttingly bitter.
The space itself is bright and inviting, thanks to a massive glass garage door that opens up in the warmer months. When it’s lifted, you get this perfect view of the Sumach-Shuter Parkette across the street.
And if you’re planning to catch up on work, they offer not only plenty of custom-made seating but also tons of outlets—perfect for serious laptop sessions.
Pro Tip:
If the weather’s nice, grab a seat at Sumach Espresso’s outdoor patio. It’s surrounded by a cute wooden fence and shaded by trees, so you get this cozy, tucked-away feel in the middle of the city.

Daily Dose Coffee Bar is a perfect little spot tucked near Toronto’s Entertainment District. If you’re all about a solid Americano, this place delivers a smooth and bold blend that hits just right.
But Americanos are just the beginning here. They’re also known for their range of Superfood Lattes such as Beetroot, Turmeric, Blue Lavender, Rose London Fog, Matcha Coconut, and more.
And if you want to nibble on something, pair your java with artisanal croissants or buttery scones.
What’s cool is that this cafe is also dog-friendly, inside and outside. So feel free to bring your pup along for your next caffeine fix.
Pro Tip:
If you want to pair your Americano with something heartier, Daily Dose also carries sandwiches by Petite Thuet and vegetable empanadas by Front Door Bakery.

The Abbott honors Anderson Ruffin Abbott, the first Canadian-born Black doctor, who once lived in the neighborhood. We think this homage is pretty cool and matches their entire space—thoughtful and full of character.
Finding it, however, is not the easiest thing to do. FYI, it’s tucked beneath a staircase and hidden around a quiet corner in Parkdale.
Once you walk in, you’ll see carefully curated antiques, wood accents, and a beautifully painted aluminum ceiling. We also noticed amazing details like old mason jars, beakers, and microscopes lining the shelves.
Of course, the coffee is the real reason you’re here, and their Americano does not disappoint—ranging from $3 to $4, it’s one of the best-valued Americanos in the city. You can pair it with a fresh muffin or buttery croissant displayed on the counter.
Pro Tip:
Love the vibe at The Abbott? Take a little piece of it home with you—they’ve got really cute tote bags, mugs, and pins for sale.

AM Coffee Studio is so unique—it’s part cafe, part wellness space. Basically, you can blend your caffeine fix with a little self-care.
I just love its interior, which nails modern with a cozy aesthetic. You’ll see exposed brick, pops of grey and pink, leafy plants, and painted rocks with cute motivational sayings.
Americano-wise, they use imported Italian Mike Oro beans, which give their brew a smooth, bold taste, plus a hint of richness. Served hot or over ice, it’s one of those cups that can turn any morning around.
And if you’re hungry, don’t leave without trying their Goddess Glow smoothie bowl. It has a base of frozen bananas and strawberries blended with coconut milk, and topped with granola, rolled oats, pecans, and much more.
Pro Tip:
AM Coffee Studio hosts drop-in yoga classes in the back studio every week. Grab an Americano before or after class for the perfect balance of calm and energy.

Inspired by Japanese tea culture, everything at Neo Coffee Bar is about intention—beautifully crafted drinks, delicate desserts, and a sleek and modern design.
Neo’s Americano is made with their house roast—a custom blend from de Mello Palheta—and it’s incredible. Expect smooth, rich flavor with chocolatey notes that make every sip feel indulgent but not heavy.
Of course, you can’t come here without eyeing the pastry case. There are cookies and muffins, but the real stars are the Japanese-inspired treats like airy roll cakes and gorgeous profiteroles.
Speaking of gorgeous, the space itself is beautiful—you’ll see curving concrete walls softened by warm wood accents. They even have long communal tables with outlets if you want to plug in your laptop.
Pro Tip:
Grab your Americano to go along with one of Neo’s baguette sandwiches. You can choose from amazing fillings like smoked salmon with cream cheese or maple chicken with tahini sauce.
