Roy Thomson Hall is an iconic part of Toronto’s cultural landscape. Smack dab in the middle of the Entertainment District, this venue is the go-to spot for all things music, performing arts, and special events.

Since it opened in 1982, the hall has seen it all—from epic classical performances to pop concerts that get the whole city buzzing. It’s also the home base for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.

The hall is known for its unique dome structure which is hard to miss (seriously, it looks like a futuristic spaceship landed right in downtown Toronto).

Today, it’s celebrated for its acoustics and continues to host major events, including performances by the TSO and gala screenings for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Live Film Scores and Screenings

One of the coolest things about Roy Thomson Hall has to be their live film score series.

Picture this: you’re watching Harry Potter, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings on a massive screen, but instead of the usual soundtrack, you’ve got a full orchestra playing it live right in front of you.

It’s often the Toronto Symphony Orchestra bringing the magic, but sometimes they switch it up with visiting orchestras or special ensembles. Either way, it’s a total vibe, blending epic films with even more epic live music.
