A friend of mine recently shared how disappointed she was after a family photo session went completely wrong. The posing felt awkward, the prints were low quality, and the studio itself was anything but inviting.
That experience got me thinking—finding the right photo studio can make all the difference in capturing those perfect, lasting memories.
So, I decided to round up Toronto’s best photo studios, known for their professionalism, creativity, and welcoming environments. Here are the top photo studios in the city that will make your next photo session a total success!
How much do photo studio sessions cost in Toronto?
Photo studio sessions in Toronto typically cost between $150 to $500, depending on the studio, the session length, and the inclusions. Basic packages usually cover a set number of edited photos and a short session.
More expensive options might include extended sessions, additional edits, or specialized photography styles. Some high-end studios may charge more, especially if they offer premium services or custom experiences.
1. Monography

Monography allows you to take the reins and capture your own professional-level photos using top-notch studio equipment, whether you’re flying solo or bringing a group. They feature an off-white backdrop that’s ideal for full-body, editorial shots.
Monochrome sessions are a hit here, offering classic black-and-white portraits that never go out of style. But if you’re more into color, their panchrome session is designed to highlight vivid expressions and personality through half-body shots.
No matter which session you choose, you can use their user-friendly remote control to conveniently adjust the camera and lighting.
And for those who enjoy instant fun, they also provide photo booths, along with several customizable packages and add-ons like photo editing and printing services.
Sadly, we heard reports of inconsistent lighting, which is something you need to watch out for.
Had an excellent experience at Monography!
“Had an excellent experience at Monography! Staff explained everything and gave me a minute to do some touch ups before starting the timer. Loved being in control and the photos and getting to see everything right as it was taken. Got to put my own music on and it was a lot of fun!”

2. THAT Toronto Studio

After nearly a decade in business, THAT Toronto Studio was recognized as the best photo studio in Toronto at the 2024 Consumer’s Choice Awards.
The studio has three huge south-facing windows that flood the space with natural light, perfect for morning and afternoon shoots. But if direct sunlight isn’t your thing, you can use their blackout drapes.
The space itself is a beautiful blend of feminine and masculine tones, featuring floral boho-chic decor, hanging plants, a plush blue velvet couch, and rustic wood accents. These create a versatile backdrop that suits various styles and themes.
For those planning extended shoots, the hourly rate becomes more affordable. And we appreciate the free access to mood, professional photo, and video lighting.

Thank you for having such a wonderful studio available!”

Lots of natural light; mood lighting was the extra cherry on top!

3. Wade Studio

Wade Studios in downtown Toronto is a go-to spot for photographers and creatives looking to bring their visions to life.
The studio features built-in cycloramas and high-end Profoto lighting and details like a fluted wood wall and exposed brick. These make it an ideal space for fashion shoots, commercial projects, product photography, and portraits.
We do like their backdrop policy: paper backdrops are billed at $35 per use if they touch the ground for up to 8 feet. But, if the backdrop doesn’t touch the ground, it’s free!
As a bonus, the studio comes with all the essentials, including an array of modifiers, air conditioning, a makeup station, and a private restroom. Plenty of accessories for added comfort, like a microwave, steamer, and Bluetooth speakers, are available as well.
Sadly, we heard about booking overlaps, so it’s wise to double-check your reservation.
Great spacious studio for your photography needs!
“Great spacious studio for your photography needs! I love how they have so many backdrop options, props and different areas for a textured background. They also include lighting equipment with every booking which is great when you don’t want to carry your lighting around! I had to book an extra hour for my session and Mark was very accommodating and easy to reach! Definitely would book here again!”

Nuovo Photography, located just east of downtown, is a cool space known for its signature black studio and welcoming, all-female team.
One of their unique offerings is the Self-Love session. This focuses on celebrating individual beauty and creating images that can positively impact your self-image.
For those on a journey to parenthood, the Life session captures the indescribable joy of bringing new life into the world. Meanwhile, the Passion session is perfect for couples, where the studio’s expertise in lighting and body language creates lasting memories.
As a cherry on top, their lighting technique is designed to accentuate natural beauty, using carefully positioned lighting to illuminate and flatter your figure. They also offer add-ons like in-studio makeup and hair sessions to enhance your experience.
Impressively, their work has been featured in Elle, Woman’s World, USA Today, and the New York Post, though some may find their services on the pricier side.
Whole team in-studio were incredible to work with
“What an absolutely amazing experience! The whole team in-studio were incredible to work with. My photographer was Lexi and she was fantastic, made me feel incredibly comfortable and confident throughout the whole shoot. Bailey was my editor and helped me pick out my favorite pictures at the end. It was so difficult to pick just a few. The studio and fellow clientele were also incredibly warm and welcoming. 5. Focus

Focus offers a versatile space for full-body, half-body, and headshot sessions with multiple backdrop changes all in one room. It’s a go-to spot for artists, photographers, influencers, and anyone looking to explore their creative side.
With top-notch lighting, backdrops, and cameras, you have everything you need to experiment with different poses, angles, and lighting setups. Another highlight is the variety of color palettes available as backdrops.
The process is simple and stress-free—book a slot, choose your outfit, and you’ll be handed a remote to control your photo session in private.
And we love that pets are welcome. They provide treats, beds, bowls, poop bags, and toys for your fur babies, who are counted as one patron in the studio.
Note that some customers have mentioned instances of rude staff, so that’s something to be aware of.
One of the best self-portrait photo studios in the city
“One of the best self portrait photo studios in the city, we had a great time trying out the two rooms, loved the Noir Room the most. They also have a changing room so you can try outfits and choose the best for your pictures either with family, friends, solo or with your partner!”
