7 Best English Breakfast Spots in Toronto That Actual Brits Rave About

best-english-breakfast-spots-toronto-banner

Imagine a heaping plate loaded with crispy bacon, juicy sausages, a couple of sunny-side-ups, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, buttery toast, and black pudding. Now that’s what I call a proper English breakfast.

I first had one years ago in London, and ever since, it’s been my ultimate breakfast craving. But finding a legit English breakfast in the 6ix? Not as easy as you’d think.

Some spots come close, while others miss the mark entirely. Good thing you’ve got me—I’ve done the digging and the tasting, all in the name of research, of course!

So if you’re a curious foodie or a Brit at heart (or maybe even an actual Brit!), this guide will lead you to Toronto’s best English breakfasts. Let’s tuck in!

Must-Order: The Q&B Breakfast

The Queen and Beaver Public House is a gastropub that feels like a cozy slice of Britain. You’ll immediately feel this as soon as you come in and see their deep wood paneling, plush carpets, and vintage portraits of Queen Elizabeth I and II.

Their menu is as English as it gets—we’re talking Scotch Eggs, Duck & Potato Pie, Soccer Pie, the works. But of course, their English breakfast is why we’re here.

Called The Q&B Breakfast, it has sunny-side-up eggs, thick-cut bacon, house-made bangers, beans, mushrooms, tomato, and toast made with crusty, artisanal bread. I like that there’s nothing greasy or hurried here—just a good, hearty breakfast.

You can enjoy your Q&B in their dining room, intimate upstairs den, or on the charming rooftop patio (if the weather’s cooperating).

Pro Tip:

If you’re a sports fan, head over to The Queen and Beaver and catch live Premier League matches or cheer for the Leafs with fellow fans.

Must-Order: Irish Breakfast

George Street Diner’s owner came to Canada from Ireland at just 19 years old. Fast forward a decade or so, and she was able to open her own diner (her dream), which has become a downtown Toronto staple.

Her Irish Breakfast includes two free-range eggs (any style) and your choice of breakfast sausage, Belfast ham, or bacon. It also comes with mushrooms, hand-cut fries, seared tomato, baked beans, and their famous Farrelly’s Irish soda bread.

If you’re extra hungry, go for the Ultimate Irish Breakfast, where you get the whole shebang—no choosing of meats here.

By the way, their soda bread is famous for a reason. It’s made in-house the traditional Irish way—grilled and buttery, it’s perfect for soaking up everything on your plate.

Pro Tip:

The George Street Diner is a bit on the tiny side. If you’re hoping to snag a spot, avoid breakfast and lunch crowds by going there around 2 PM to 4 PM.

Must-Order: Senator Fry Up

Founded in 1929, The Senator is the oldest restaurant in the city. It has a classy diner vibe and offers greasy spoon classics like crab cakes and wedge salads.

I recommend the Senator Fry Up, their take on a classic English breakfast. It’s a pretty straightforward plate—you get two eggs any style, a choice of bacon, sausage, or peameal, baked beans, homefries, and toast.

Another English breakfast version is The Real Good Plate. This one has eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, homefries, and your pick of either a pancake or French toast.

Pair your brekky with a cup of their espresso and have yourself a great morning!

Pro Tip:

If you’re planning something special, the Senator’s upstairs space can be rented. Modeled after a French Salon, it can host up to 20 people and has a private bar, restrooms, and a piano.

I recommend pairing your Siempre English Breakfast with their Let’s Tango Mango smoothie. Its brightness cuts through the richness of the meal perfectly.

And if you’re after the full English experience, swing by on Sundays for their Traditional Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding.

Pro Tip:

If you’re walking through Queen and Parliament in the morning, visit Figs Breakfast Lunch for a solid English morning meal. It has that lovely neighborhood diner charm that you only see in movies.

Their English Breakfast is a steal at $17. Two eggs, two sausages, baked beans, fried mushrooms, a grilled tomato, crispy potatoes, and toast—satisfying and unpretentious.

The menu also includes vegetarian options and a kids’ menu, making it a great choice for families or groups with different preferences.

I also enjoy their hot (and cheap!) beverage options, where you can get coffee or tea with a refill for $3.50 or a rich hot chocolate with whipped cream.

Pro Tip:

Sometimes, Figs Breakfast Lunch has issues with card machines. It’s always smart to have a bit of cash when you go here, just in case.
